"Aristotle!" Liam yelled. "Good to see you. Good boy. No, down! Maddie! Help!"
Madeleine came to the door and covered her mouth to hide her laughter. Liam held several bags and was trying to keep Aristotle from dropping him on his ass.
"Aristotle, down," she said, and the dog immediately obeyed, trotting to her side with his tongue lolling out.
"Whew, thanks," Liam said. "How'd he get here?"
"Orion. Here, let me help you," Madeleine took two of the bags and they went into the house. "What is all this?"
"Groceries. I figured you might be hungry." He set the bags on the kitchen counter. "Orion, huh."
"How is old Orion?"
"The same. I don't think he's ever going to forgive me for falling in love with a vampire."
"Do you want him to?" Liam asked, putting the groceries away.
"It's his hang up. I don't need forgiveness. It's just, we were friends and now we're not, and that hurts."
Liam gave her a squeeze and kissed her forehead. "Well, his loss, darling. Here." he handed her a bag from the pharmacy. "I bought three, just in case."
She bit her lip. "You are OK with all this, aren't you? With me having someone else's baby?"
"Yeah, I am."
"It's just, you sounded like you wanted to get drunk."
"Not for the reason you think, Maddie. I don't care who the sperm donor is, this baby is mine, and yours. Ours. No, I wanted to get drunk because a month ago I was a vampire and now I'm about to be a daddy. It's just a bit overwhelming, is all."
"Yeah, it is."
"But I didn't buy any booze."
"Nah," he said, digging out a frying pan. "You can't get drunk with Junior on board so I figured it wouldn't be fair if I did. Now, go, take that test while I make us some lunch. The suspense is killing me."
"OK," she said, kissing his cheek. He grinned and turned his face so they met lip to lip.
"Hear this now, Maddie," he said, holding her. "I love you, and the kid. End of story. We'll get married right away and no one will know it's not mine."
"What if Declan wants to know?"
"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Now scoot. I have an omelet to prepare."
She smiled, and took the kit into the bathroom.
"So?" he said through the door ten minutes later.
She opened the door.
"It's official," she said. "We're pregnant."
"Well, then," he said, as they stared at each other.
"Yeah," she said.
"Welcome to the family, Junior," Liam said to her tummy. "You must be hungry. Lunch is served."
Smiling, Madeleine followed him to the kitchen.Next Chapter
