Long ago, in the midst of the Blizzard, in the wrath of Korimiku, the land was dead. Lost within the cradle of the mountains, it lay lonesome, held only by the avaricious hands of him, the Dreaded One. But time betrayed his body, just as the land. For months he lay, slowly dying. Alone. Finally his death came, and Shanqai was but a myth lost between legends. A story told with fear. A nameless prophecy. Until one day it was rediscovered. No matter the traitor the heavens may be upon it, it would hold new life. Life that one day would thrive. And vanquish such evil. But a trust must be formed, and Enzeru has come to reign.

Appendage swayed warily as amber eyes bore into the sunset. The snow that settled on the ground left his tracks under a soft blanket of white. The sun disappeared beyond the mountaintops, concealing the vale in darkness. A prison of clouds were captured in the ebony sky above. With a deep sigh, ribs barely visible between long strands of fur, the bleached male carried himself forewards with apprehension. Wether it be the stillness or the way the wind combed the land, something sent shivers down his spine, and he was tense. But this was unclaimed land. And his opportunity to rule.

He had waited forever, and now his chance had come. Lifting a silky muzzle, jowls parted to make way for the howl of claimation. It had a lugubrious tune, and echoed through the snowcapped peaks. He rose to his fullest potential, and surveyed the land that lay before him. It was intriguingly beautiful. But most of all, it was his. His to rule and direct through thick and thin.

Fate had led him this far. But it worked in twisted ways. So, where would fate direct him now? He wondered, watching as the land fell into an even stronger silence than before. He lay in one of the dens beside a patch of dead grasses. The lethargy from before took hold of his thoughts, and he slipped into a light summer.

--

Dawn came quickly, spreading a dim light through the clouds. The snow still fell lightly. He rose, freeing the clumps of the ice from his pelt. It fell in small flurries to help coat the ground with the white cover. As he trod on, his paw prints dented the snow's perfection. The trees leaned with weight, threatening to throw themselves on the land below, along with its contents. A white hare perched, oblivious to the predator that stalked him from behind.

Crouched low, belly fur dragging in the snow, his amber eyes were fixed on the prey before him. Nearing with upmost stealth, he lunged. Catching the hare unprepared, all it could do was stare at the glinting teeth above him. Life ended quikly.

Hunger satisfied, he moved. The day was young and he wondered: whom else might he meet?
