Ianto was struck once more by how strange this was, despite having been in the service of the Doctor for months. He stood in the offices of the Welsh Assembly, only a door and a couple of feet separating him and the maddest creature to ever live... and he was making tea. Torchwood had been formed to fight alien menaces and keep them (and specifically the Master) from entering or causing harm to the British empire by Queen Victoria so long ago. Well, he figured, he was doing one part of that job by working with the Doctor – the Master would soon be gone. He automatically reached for the sugar as he thought, scooping out a perfectly level quantity and stirring it into the tea. Chai, no milk, one sugar and a dash of cinammon. He looked down at the cup and realised what he was doing, and he sighed. He'd have to drink it, he didn't really fancy dumping it down the drain. It always made the place stink when that happened. He put it to one side and focused on making the cup his boss actually wanted, only to walk into the room with it and find the man- alien- Doctor not there. Ianto blinked and frowned. When had that happened...?

”Well,” he muttered to himself. ”Two teas for me, then.” He was never too keen on tea, save for fennel because it helped him sleep. Coffee was definitely his preferred poison, but today he'd have to suffer through it. He hadn't seen Violet around either so far and it bothered him. There were a good few reasons for it bothering him, too. Firstly, he wondered what they were up to. Was the Doctor off on a meeting he'd forgotten about, under the guise of the Prime Minister of the UK? Or was he hatching some plot to take down Torchwood or to heal the world? Was Violet with him, or was she elsewhere, doing her own thing? Sometimes it seemed strange to remember that they did have to go through the motions just like everyone else. He sat down at his perfectly neat desk and allowed himself to lean back in his chair a little, picking up the cup of chai and sipping it gently. The Welshman cringed. It was far too sweet for his tastes, but then anything Toshiko had liked was. Gwen and Kara, too, had a much sweeter tooth than Ianto had been able to stand when he'd made them coffee and they'd not been around to drink it. He never wasted a drop, but he sometimes suffered for that need to not waste.

He sighed and leaned back in his chair. Despite being personal secretary to the nation's leader, he actually had nothing to do. He kept on top of his work and, unfortunately for him at that precise moment, the Doctor's staff were amazingly diligent and able to deal with most of their own problems, leaving the Doctor free to plot and Ianto to... well, sit around doing nothing. He tapped the side of his cup with his fingertips, glancing at the clock. 12:45. Too early to go for lunch? He despised having time to think, because it always meant he reflected on what had happened in the past. Thoughts of Lisa, Torchwood One and Three, his family... Pondering over his life was the last thing he really wanted because he always ended up feeling guilty and had to then convince himself that he was doing the right thing before the Doctor showed back up, lest the alien think Ianto was having a change of heart.

Like right now. Shaking his head and standing up, he stretched. ”Buggering hell,” he muttered under his breath. ”What I wouldn't give right now for a Weevil...”

Violet was bored. Not just bored, but mind-numbingly bored, so bored that she was actually considering seeing if she could survive the jump out of the tenth-storey window, just to have something to do. She let her body flop forwards and rested her forehead on the desk, next to the silver laptop that had been a present from the Doctor. Purely for work purposes, the poor machine had been very abused over the past few months; E-mail after E-mail, typed letters and minutes of meetings had all passed through it. Basically, everything that Ianto was too busy/found too dull to do.
"Why does it have to be my day off today?" Violet muttered, straightening herself up again, throwing her head back over the headrest and swinging gently on her computer chair. Not that it would make a difference what day it was, of course, it just seemed that if she could've put it off for as long as possible it might have been easier. At the moment, she was alone, and, as much as she hated to admit it, Violet had got used to company over the last few years. Not just anyone's, of course, but an equal, someone with whom she could have an intelligent conversation."Right, that's it!" She muttered, grabbing her bag, shoving the laptop inside and flinging her long black coat over her shoulders: "I'm going to work."

Sat in the back of the taxi, Violet had to admit that she must have been one of the most dull people on Earth. Who else, she wondered, would willingly go to the office on their only day off for at least a month, just because they were lonley? Having said that, who else would be as lonley as Violet? Who else would go home to a completely empty flat, eat alone, watch TV alone, so very lonley, and not even someone to 'phone, no mother to moan to, no friend that she could share gossip with. No, Violet's case was certainly unique, at least in her eyes.

Having paid the driver, Violet flashed her ID at some guard or other and was let into James Bishop's offices.
"Mr. Bishop?" she called. "Mr. Bish..." she opened the door, only to be confronted with Ianto Jones reclaxing in his chair- well, as far as Mr. Busy himself could relax. "Yan!" she grinned, knowing that the nickname annoyed him, "Don't s'pose one of those teas is for me, is it?"
