Shady Groves Academy's banding program is unlike other institutions. Under Professor Grayson, a symphonic orchestra approach is taken, uniting band and orchestra players together. Each class, the separate entities are given time to go over music while he works with the other group, saving time at the end for united practice.

Unfortunately, being one man means that Asher has been unable to implement any sort of pop-culture band at the moment, but any who are interested in that potential should speak with him. Given enough interest, he could possibly take it up as an extra-curricular.

It is not required for you to already know how to play your instrument, and at the moment two courses are offered: beginner band and intermediate band, unless Asher finds someone who requires some personal further instruction.

20% of the class grade is participation
20% is performances
30% is instrument upkeep
20% is theory
10% is the theory final

Name: Keegan Parhar
Grade: 9
Instrument: Mainly clarinet, but I can play the basics of other instruments like the flute, trumpet, a little bit of the strings section, some percussion instruments, and a little piano as well.
Experience: I've played clarinet officially since I was about eight, but I dabbled with instruments a while before that. I haven't had professional training exactly though. I learned from books and through my father, Philip Parhar, who is a professional composer for the movie industry so he sort of counts as an actual teacher. I was also in my middle school's band for all three years I was there for.
Course Expectations: I hope to be able to further my knowledge of music and benefit from playing with others and from being taught by a real teacher.
Other comments: I know how to read sheet music quite fluently, treble clef and bass clef, plus I would be willing to assist other students in learning or practicing music.

Name: Harper Smith
Grade: 10
Instrument: piano but can play the viola if needed
Experience: I have been playing piano for five years and I have done a few concerts so I know what it's like to preform on stage. My viola playing isn't as good but I have some confidence in it.
Course Expectations: To be able to play all genre;s of music
Other comments: I know about music theory and I can read music

Name: Tessa Brennan
Grade: 10
Instrument: Cello
Experience: I've been playing for about ten years with private lessons for most of that time.
Course Expectations: To play with a group and just genuinely have a good time making music.
Other comments: Obviously, I know how to read music. I'm best at bass and tenor clef, but can read treble as well. I also am quite good a memorization. If I don't have most of my music memorized by the second week, I'll be surprised.
