Title: The Higher You Jump, The Farther You Fall
Description: Jerome Heart, Quinn Karlsson, Closed
Jerome Heart - April 13, 2011 04:48 AM (GMT)
Jerome had been out at the High Jump area all afternoon. He had only made two jumps that he actually made it over. He was struggling very hard, and becoming frustrated with this one height. He just could not reach it. He was about ready to give up, it was so bad.
Jerome back up a quite a bit, took a deep breath, and started running. He was running as fast as he could, calculating the exact angle he should turn at, and the exact time to jump. He turned on the perfect angle, and counted down, to himself, when he should jump. One....Two.....Three! Jerome sprang into the air, at what seemed to be the perfect time. He arched his back over the bar, perfectly. But then he miss calculated one flaw. The length of his legs, since not many people measure their legs, he estimated the length, but his estimate was too short. His ankles hooked the bar, bringing it down with him, and Jerome had failed, yet again.
"Dammit...This stupid height is unreachable..." Jerome said with frustration. He punched the mat, and sat on the edge of it.He sighed figuring he better run off some of his frustration. He stretched, took a sip from his water bottle, and got ready to run. He was nearly about to take off when he heard someone coming up, he turned to see someone coming towards the track, he couldn't tell who it was, just that they were heading his direction. He decided to wait to see if the other person would like to run with him, or just hang out with him, so he sat down and waited for them to approach him.
Quinn Karlsson - April 13, 2011 09:57 PM (GMT)
Quinn had been sitting by the track, trying to get a little bit of last minute reading done for her Literature class. The book was slightly dull, so Quinn sought out a quiet place to read, one where she would have little to no distractions. Her chosen spot had been perfect...for a short period of time. She was disrupted when Jerome came down to practice his high jump. He didn't notice her, and she didn't say anything. He was obviously practicing, and she knew how much she hated to be disrupted when she was practicing.
She tried to continue on with her reading, although he was distracting her a little bit. He seemed to be having a bit of difficulty with the height of his jump. At first, it amused Quinn slightly, however he soon seemed to grow more and more frustrated, and then she started to feel bad.
Quinn ran a hand through her hair, still slightly wet from swim practice. She looked back over at Jerome, who seemed like he had given up for the time being. Quinn set her book aside, obviously now completely disinterested in it's contexts. She walked over to him, her thumbs in the pockets of her shorts. "Having a bit of trouble, Jerome?" she teased lightly, a small smirk playing on her lips.
Jerome Heart - April 13, 2011 10:11 PM (GMT)
Jerome hadn't known Quinn that much, she was a grade ahead, and he rarely saw her around school. Most likely because she would get away like she was trying to do mere minutes ago. "Hey Quinn, How are you?" He asked, ignoring her little tease. He smiled faintly to her, before studying her looks with out letting her notice, and think he was a creep. She was a very pretty woman, her eyes seemed to draw his attention the most. He then blinked a few times, and refocused on the conversation, hoping he didn't space or too much.
"Uh....um...So, I never really see you around. We haven't really had many conversations together have we?" He asked trying to start up a nice conversation.
Quinn Karlsson - April 13, 2011 10:24 PM (GMT)
Quinn returned his smile as she sat down beside him. "I'm fine, thank you. How about you?" she asked. She hadn't really noticed him staring at her, usually unless it was painfully obvious things like that went right over Quinn's head.
She leaned back on her hands, nodding at his statement. "No we haven't." she said. She never really saw him that much, occasionally in the hallway every so often, but Quinn is normally always pressed for time, or a bit distracted. "So how's your high jump coming along?" she asked. "It looked like you were having some issues before. I wish I could help a bit, but I'm sure you've noticed that track and field isn't exactly my area of expertise." she laughed.
Jerome Heart - April 13, 2011 10:36 PM (GMT)
Jerome looked back at the high jump stand, before looking back at her. "The high jump is just getting annoying right now, It's mostly my fault for setting the bar too high, ...literally." He laughed slightly. "Thanks for the concern though." He smiled. "So what are you doing at the track anyways? I mean, you said it yourself that track isn't your greatest point, I see you at the pool a lot though, I am a Junior lifeguard. you probably haven't notice that though." He laughed slightly, not much of a laugh, more like a small giggle.
Jerome couldn't help but feel like a creep after saying he watched her at the pool. Like really he watches people at the pool, and they never really notice him. It makes him feel like a creep on a regular basis, but it's good because if anything happens at the pool, he could help.
Quinn Karlsson - April 13, 2011 10:45 PM (GMT)
Quinn laughed, "Well, if you don't set the bar high, than you'll never get better." she noted. "And I was just reading by the grass. It's normally pretty quiet over here, so I figured it'd be a decent place to finish up my reading assignment for Literature." she said.
Quinn honestly didn't even know he was a lifeguard, and now she felt slightly oblivious for never noticing him at the pool. God knows she's there enough. "No, actually I never noticed." she admitted, sheepishly. "Sorry, but I barely notice the people in my lane when I'm swimming. Plus, most of the time I'm, you know, trying to not drown." she laughed, referring to some of the harder sets that Coach gives them, in which case, she almost wants to drown.
Jerome Heart - April 13, 2011 10:53 PM (GMT)
Jerome liked that saying she just gave, it gave him some confidence. "What literature assignment would that be?" He asked, slightly curious about her work.
Jerome didn't mind that he wasn't noticed, he was rarely noticed, even by some of the teachers! "I understand. Hey, maybe you should pretend to drown, it'll give me a reason to say hi, and not get yelled at by a coach." He laughed, it was a simply little joke, he didn't mean for it to be taken literal. He can relate to her training, he has to train constantly to maintain good speed, and good heights when he jumps. It makes him feel exhausted, and he doesn't have much time after school for a social life.
Quinn Karlsson - April 13, 2011 11:05 PM (GMT)
Quinn shrugged, "Oh, I was just trying to finish up Tess if the d'Urbervilles, It's slightly boring though, and I have yet to finish it." she chuckled. With boring books like this one, she probably wouldn't finish it either the night before it was due, or maybe even a few hours before. She was quite the procrastinator.
She laughed at his comment. "That would be kind of ironic, don't you think?" she chuckled, "Also, a little embarrassing. I don't know if I would be able to stay on the team, I'd be so embarassed." she said, laughing a bit.
Jerome Heart - April 13, 2011 11:11 PM (GMT)
"Hmmmm....your book does seem boring, and I haven't even heard of it." Jerome laughed slightly, the title was kind of boring to him, the only books he really liked to read were murder mysteries. He couldn't put his finger on it, but he just loved to figure out who the murderer is. All the random twists all throughout the books were so exciting for him.
Jerome laughed slightly embarrassed by his statement. His face a light pink blush. He felt like a giant idiot at this time. "It would be kinda embarrassing to drown on a swim team wouldn't it? Hehe..." He said, putting his hand behind his head. "So...what's the book about?" He asked, not really interested, but wanting to keep the conversation going.
Quinn Karlsson - April 13, 2011 11:28 PM (GMT)
Quinn let out an exasperated sigh. "You don't even want to know." she laughed. "It's basically about this girl, Tess, who goes to this mansion because she thinks she's inheriting all this money, when in reality she's not even related to these people. And basically the rest of it is about her tragic life, and how she gets raped by this guy, and then has his baby, and then her baby dies. Then, she finds this other other guy and she marries him, but then he leaves when she tells him that she wasn't a virgin anymore. Then she has to work on this farm, and it's just not a happy story." she said, with a chuckle. "I won't spoil the ending for you because you'll probably end up reading it sooner or later." she winked. "I'd recommend the Sparknotes if you have to read it. I read them like a week ago, and let me tell you they were way more entertaining then the actual book. But I figured I'd still read it like a good student. But really, it just goes on and on, my God it's boring." she said, "Sorry, I'm kind of babbling a bit, aren't I?" she asked, with a laugh.
Jerome Heart - April 13, 2011 11:42 PM (GMT)
"Oh...I don't mind!" Jerome said with a smile. He really didn't. He just liked having someone to hang out with. "So do you wanna go do anything? I'm done with practice, and I've got nothing else to do...besides homework, but I'll just find do it tomorrow morning." He smiled. He didn't procrastinate much, but when he had something better to do, like train for upcoming track meets, he would often procrastinate.
Quinn Karlsson - April 13, 2011 11:49 PM (GMT)
Quinn returned his smile. "Sure, that sounds good. I really should finish my book, but I'll just finish it in the morning; I'm a fast reader." she said, standing up and brushing some of the grass off her shorts. "So where do you want to go?" she asked, offering out her hand to help him up off the ground.
Jerome Heart - April 14, 2011 12:02 AM (GMT)
Jerome smiled, taking Quinn's hand. As he stood up he said. "Thanks for the help. So would you like to go to the pool?" He asked, knowing she likes to swim. "All we would need to do is stop by the dorms, and get a swim suit." He said with a smile.
Quinn Karlsson - April 14, 2011 12:14 AM (GMT)
"No problem." she said, with a smile. She thought about his offer; normally she'd always be up for heading down to the pool, but she just got out of practice like maybe an hour ago. Her hair hadn't even dried completely yet. "Hmm...maybe another time. I just got out of the pool, and I don't really want to get back in just yet." she laughed.
She tried to think of another place that they could go to instead. "Hmm...we could go get something to eat if you wanted?" she suggested, "Or we could go somewhere else...?" she said, not really knowing where else they'd go. Normally, she was pretty spontaneous, and could usually think of a million things to do on the spot. Her brain must not be working correctly today, because she couldn't think of many things. Well...she could probably think of plenty of things that would be fun, just not exactly on campus.
Jerome Heart - April 14, 2011 12:21 AM (GMT)
Jerome thought of her suggestions, food did sound good right about now. His stomach then gave a loud roar. Jerome hadn't thought of how hungry he was the whole time, so i guess he never realized that he hasn't eaten since breakfast. "Um....Well I guess we can go eat?" He said with a slight blush from his embarrassing stomach growl. He tried to shrug it off. "So where do you want to eat?" He hasn't really went out to eat in town much so he didn't know much places to go. "Where ever you want to go. I'm fine with anything." He said with a smile. His grandmother had always told him to let the lady pick the restaurant.
Quinn Karlsson - April 14, 2011 12:25 AM (GMT)
Quinn tried to smother her laughter when she heard his stomach growl, however she was kind of failing miserably. "Yeah, you sound a bit hungry." she said, letting out a laugh. "And it doesn't really matter to me, I eat almost anything. You can pick." she said, with a shrug.
Jerome Heart - April 14, 2011 12:53 AM (GMT)
Jerome blushed an even darker color when Quinn began to laugh at him. He held his stomach as in to keep it quiet. "I-I really don't mind where we eat. Obviously it will be in town. How about that Frozen Treats, and gourmet pizzeria?" He never liked saying the "Ice, Ice Baby" part of the restaurant, it was very odd to him.
Quinn Karlsson - April 14, 2011 01:20 AM (GMT)
Quinn chuckled as she noticed Jerome's extremely red complexion and the embarrassed look on his face. "Aw...don't be embarrassed. My stomach growls all the time." she said.
He's kind of adorable when he get's embarrassed. she thought.
Quinn nodded, "That sounds fine to me. I could definately go for some pizza." she said.
Jerome Heart - April 14, 2011 01:34 AM (GMT)
Jerome was a little less red, but still pinkish. "So pizza it is." He smiled.
He was still a little nervous, Quinn must have thought he was an idiot or something! He just hoped he could make everything seem better at dinner, wait what was he thinking?! He was acting as if it were a date! Was it a date? Jerome couldn't tell even if he wanted to.
(Now closed, creepers continue to Ice Ice baby Frozen treats and gourmet pizza to continue stalking.)
