Figured I'd throw out the first post in the Nova group. I am rebuilding (as I like to say, reNOVAting) a 1971 Nova at home in my cramped, cold garage. Although I don't have a particular question or problem at this point, I would love to hear any advice (it's taking longer than I wanted), tips (it's costing more than I wanted) or motivational commentary (it's costing a lot more than I wanted) to keep me going on this project. The car is pretty much dismantled at this point, with new quarters and floors all welded in place. New doors and fenders, and misc parts are on their way, and I have boxes and bags of old tagged dirty parts to clean up/repair/restore.
It has a 350 with a 4 speed. I am really trying to have the car back together for this summer cruising, and it seems it is literally looking to take me the proverbial month of Sundays to get it there. |

CJP - I have some pics of my project at http://members.cox.net/gto2004/supernova.html
Most were taken before, and then during disassembly. I have some more that I am going to add to that site since some recent work was completed. |

Jon it looks like a great car to start with. If you need any parts I have a two Nova parts cars with a few good parts left. Does the car have a tilt wheel? Don't see many novas with tilt. Ed

Ed, it does have a tilt column in it. Looking for a bench seat, if you have one or know of one. Would prefer to find a black one and not have to re-cover it, but I can if necessary.

Cool Ed. I'll contact you on the seat. On another topic, would you know the best way to remove the welded on door hinges from the body of the car, to replace them with new bolt on versions? (If that can even be done). looks like they are spot welded on the inside, sealed on the outside.

Jon,you can drill them out but you will need the inside flange to ad for the hinge to bolt to. Whats wrong with the hinge on the body?

well, nothing is really wrong with the hinges, except maybe a couple of blown out roller pins on the bottoms, but I got a pair of those brand new door shells that take a bolt on hinge.

Thanks for the compliments.
Hey Ed, I am still interested in that bench seat, and also looking for a LF bumper bracket set (2 pcs), and possibly a heater box (the underhood one the blower motor bolts to. Dont need the motor, just the box) I'm sure there's more I need. (oh yeah, I should probably post in Parts Wanted, huh?) let meknow. Thanks |
