CORE SUBJECTS (compulsory)

These subjects are done by all students, regardless of year, and qualify for both OWL (Ordinary Wizarding Level) and NEWT (Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests) exams in Year 5 and Year 7 respectively. Failed OWL in any of these subjects will result in repeating fifth year.

First years receive flying lessons and Quodpot lessons in addition to their normal curriculum. Advanced flying lessons are available as an extra-curricular activity from fourth year onwards.

Advanced Magical Theory
Orion Kurin

Course includes discussion of ancient magical physics, theoretical magic, experimental charms and a safety discussion on the three deepest mysteries of magic that must not be tampered with (heart, soul and life/death).

Ancient Runes
Damian Faust Hardwicke

This course will teach students to read and understand ancient runes, the language of Beedle the Bard and other famous wizarding writers. Norse runes are the main focus of the course, but others will be included during the semester.

Apparition

SPECIAL CLASS - Takes place for one semester only, with an exam at the end. Failing apparition exam will result in not being issued a license for apparition, and possible splinching. Please do not attempt apparition until this class is scheduled.

Arithmancy
Professor C. Lillis

Arithmancy is a magical discipline that includes predicting the future with numbers and numerology. Guest speakers will be invited once per semester.

Care of Magical Creatures
Professor A. Volkov

Magical beasts are our solemn duty to protect and conserve, and this class will teach our students how best to go about that. Respect for the creatures is a must, as magical beasts are far more intelligent than Muggle animals.

Divination
Professor M. Blake

A small, select class. Professor Blake is semi-retired, and doesn't tolerate time wasters. He likes to ensure his students have some capacity for prophecy and divination before permitting them to take his class.

Muggle Studies

Class features instructions on how to blend in when going among Muggles, converting galleons to Muggle dollars and a brief study on the genetics that create Muggle-borns and Squibs.

SIXTH AND SEVENTH YEARS ONLY
Restricted to students with sufficiently high marks in Magical Theory and Potions class, as this is the most potentially dangerous and complex class in the school.
