If one were to ask Jade right now this very instant what had crossed his mind as he signed himself up for a blind date than he'd probably chew said person out for even considering asking him such a ridiculous question, no less actually speaking it out loud. If only because he didn't really have an answer himself and thinking back to it, it had been an embarrassingly impulsive decision on his part. He wasn't even that interested but there was no turning back now. He'd just go with the flow. And, hey, at least they were to meet at a nice location.

A shiver suddenly took over his being and, just as fast as he thought that maybe he spoke too soon he dashed the thought back to the back of him mind. He just resorted to wrapping his scarf tighter around his neck and actually buttoning his cardigan up, with the exception of a few buttons. It was slightly on the nippy side, but he'd rather this than a scorching hot sun. Just one of the many reasons he was also thankful this was taking place during the evening.

Staring out at the ocean he couldn't help but wonder just when his supposed date was planning on showing up. Given he'd arrived here ridiculously early himself if you've been by yourself just waiting for a while you start to get impatient. After a bit he sighed quietly and slowly went to look for a place to sit, opting for a seemingly abandoned beach towel a little ways away from him.

Besides, why think about this negatively? Maybe his date would be someone he'd actually like and could get along with. His track record with the female gender wasn't a good one but things could change, right?

slish slosh Slish Slosh SLISH SLOSH

The sound of pant-legs dragging through the sand grew near as a young woman approached, a slight tinge of red in her cheeks yet it looked more natural then that of a blush. She bit her lower lip slightly as she grew closer, hands fiddling with the ends of her hoodie. Okay Avery, you can do this. Don't make a fool of yourself, you can do thiiii- "Eep!" she squeaks out as she tripped over her own feet, having been paying more attention to her thoughts than actually walking. She fell face first in the sand with a groan, at least it was somewhat soft. Maybe she should jsut lay here.. save her from more embarrassment.

She couldn't, of course, and slowly at up -- pulling away her glasses before using her opposite sleeve up wipe away sand that clung to her scarlet face. "I-I'm okay.. S-sorry if I.. er.. I.. Um...Splashed you with sand? That.. sounds weird..." she sighed, pushing her glasses back on before scooting to sit just a few feet away in the sand, crossing her legs and smiling as she felt the cool grainy texture between her bare toes. It was always a part of the beach, and she loved the beach.

She absently adjusted her strange hat before looking over to the boy, taking in the sight of him before gaining a sheepish smile. "E-er.. I'm Avery.. Avery Nyx... I.. I guess you're my blind date?" she asked, trying to spark conversation at all as she wrapped her arms around her chubby body in a comfortable manner.

At some point in time, Jade had started to space off while looking at the ocean. If his date didn't show up, at least he could say that he 'enjoyed' being at the beach for the heck of it. Though apparently he didn't need to worry about that, since not long after he heard a squeak and he turned to look in the direction it came from. Was that his date? Hmm... 'Interesting hat.' Was pretty much all that came to Jade's mind.

Instead of offering to help her up, he remained seated in his spot and just looked at the girl. Waiting for her to get up, if she was even going to get up after that. He didn't think tripping from that height onto sand would knock one unconscious just like that, though. When she finally got up to sit properly, he continued his staring game, shrugging at her apology. "S'okay. No sand reached my vicinity." he muttered. It didn't really look like he was going to put much effort in keeping a conversation going.

"Jade Hunter. And I guess you're mine." That was more of a statement, rather than a question seeing as he saw no reason otherwise. He'd been waiting long enough for someone to show up and- He was probably being unnecessarily curt. This wasn't going to be bearable, let alone fun, for either of them if he kept this attitude up. "So... Nice hat." Why did he say that? Was that the best he could do? 'Nice hat'? Geez, see, this was why he didn't talk. To avoid saying stupid sounding things like that gee he kind of really hoped that didn't sound as stupid as he thought it did.

She seemed slightly taken aback, holding her breath a moment before letting off a soft sigh. Her gaze shifted to the waters as she shifted a little in the sand. Great... I.. I made this awkward... she thought, gritting her teeth slightly.

"Jade Hunter. And I guess you're mine."

All she could manage with a slight nod in response.

"So... Nice hat."

She paused, eyes sliding in their sockets to peer over at the boy through their corners. An eyebrow raised before her gaze quickly shifted back to the ocean. "...Thanks..." she paused, not really knowing what else to say. ...What kind of conversation starter was that? Then again, what kind o response was that to give? Oh dear...

Well, clearly this was going swimmingly. He hadn't really been feeling particularly awkward before, but he was certainly starting to feel it now. And he didn't like it.

'Darnit why don't you say something now to keep this conversation going? I said my part. The least you could is put a little extra effort into this.' As he rambled in his mind he could feel the awkwardness he'd been feeling before make room for a different feeling he was quite familiar with. Anger. In any other case he probably would have voiced those thoughts and leave, but quitting barely even a minute into this was a little...pathetic, he thought.

So he tried something again. "Did you make it yourself? And I don't want an overly simple yes or no answer." he said. Sounding a little snippy in that last sentence. "I won't be the only one trying to make this go somewhere. Why don't you tell me a bit about yourself and I'll do the same?"

Her eyes lid as her gaze fell to the sand around, a finger moving to trace circles through the sand. ...So much for first impressions...
She flinched ever-so-slightly at the snippy words, biting her lower lip as she half wished she was invisible. "...N-no. Sorry..." she hesitated a moment, "..And.. I Designed it... but.. no, I didn't make it... I.. won a random raffle contest and the person who held the contest made it from my design for free because I won."

"I won't be the only one trying to make this go somewhere. Why don't you tell me a bit about yourself and I'll do the same?"

Her teeth grit as her brow furrowed, a slightly peeved gaze shifting to him before her face relaxed and returned back to the sand. "I.. do not really know what to really say about myself. I suppose it depends on what you want to know?"
