A different suggestion

Minty/new admin, is there anyway to have 2 cboxes, maybe one IC and the other OOC?

I want to be able to chat with everyone, but it's usually IC now. I feel like I'm either interrupting or I get drowned out.

I'm actually a little wary of this idea myself. ^^; On the other site that has an IC chat box...the forum kind of turned into a place where no topics are made and no rps are ever done. Everyone on the site only plays in the in character chat box and has completely lost interest in roleplaying...

Nah, you're not alone in it, locale. Most of the time the only posts I make in the c-box is: '6.o' because everyone's in the middle of an RP and I've no idea just what is transpiring.

It's not really a rare thing either, most forms of IM dedicated to OoC-ness usually devolve into IC-ness simply because you have the instant gratification of an immediate reply in contrast with a forum RP in which there's a traditional wait time between posts. This usually tends to kill forum topic activity, yes. I've seen it many, many times.


Maybe an IRC channel could be set up for IC shenanigans? That way the IM RP is divorced from the forum and those who want to can easily join in there, leaving the forums free for other stuff?

Personally, I am not a huge fan of IC boxes myself because like Bren said, that's what became the focus of the RP when we had one a while back. For a while no one really threaded or plotted because they were in the IC box all the time.

However, whoever takes over may have a different opinion and want an IC box. : )

I agree with Usagi and Mint. ^^;; I've seen it happen, and I've been on sites that don't have an IC chat box and the roleplay activity is really high.

I've noticed it's really easy for people to get really enthralled in IC chat box and not actually roleplay. So... I'm sorry Locale, I personally am against the idea. XDD;;;;

Maybe we can make the chat box longer... since I know that sometimes even with regular talking other people can get drowned out. :(

I haven't personally seen any IC in the chat box myself... doesn't it say at the to top "No IC chat.'?

I think maybe... if a lot of people do want the IC chat box it can be a click here for IC box? Like Usagi suggested? o.o

@ SilverWing Knight, Yeah, its true IC is addicting because of the fast replies. I can see why people like it. XD;

I like the longer Cbox idea, because like Joshua said, even with normal talking its possible for people to get drowned out whenever they attempt joining in on a conversation already going on, try bringing up another side-topic, or maybe are trying to ask someone a question. =] Maybe a longer cbox might help with this and make all messages easier to see.

The 'No IC chat.' is a new addition above the Cbox and don't really remember it being there before. As of now, yes, it is against the rules to do IC chat in the cbox.

Also, the idea of 'Click here for IC chat' is really good! I haven't seen it before but if its possible, I think it'd be a really great addition. That way it won't take up its own side box on the website and not come off as a 'central idea' on the website. If people are regularly posting on forums, or just need some time to get their muse back through doing the IC chat, it shouldn't be a problem. However, it is up to the new staff/admin whether to do this idea or not. Personally, I think it'd be very good for the website since banning IC chat altogether is a little difficult for some people. If not having some kind of alternative for IC chat, maybe just making sure its kept to a minimum? ^^''

I agree with Eiruna and think that would most likely be the fairest option for the forum. ^^ Because banning IC chat all together is unfair for those who enjoy it. But, putting it right up in the side-bar could potentially cause the member-base of Saffron Island to become members who only prefer the IC chat box and not the forum post roleplay.

Which would drive other members away and out—mainly those who DO like to roleplay in the forum with detailed posts and not one-line chat rps. I've seen this happen on another HM site and it has literally become a forum with little to no activity while the IC chat is always alive with new messages. ): < I ended up leaving the site because of that fact.

I don't see how a longer chat would really... fix anything. Just take up more room on the sidebar, but I mean... I'm willing to try anything!

I say no to the icbox on the sidebar. Personally I love IC boxes but they do decrease the amount of actual threading. Now I think both Ei and I agree that having a link to the ICbox is a good idea, it doesn't distract those trying to post and doesn't take up room on the sidebar.

So I say the we go with the link for a little while, if the number of posts starts dropping we will think about taking it away or something so yeah. Thats my adminy side showing.
