"Don't worry. It will not." Clayton replied matter-of-factly. "Please, Miss Valarie, stay close... you may also wish to avert your eyes."

He pulled the trigger.

A clump of dirt exploded just inches shy of the white wolf's face.

"I have no desire to harm you." He informed the testy creatures. "Now get out of here!"

As much as he despised the present situation, there was precious little to be done about it. He was no hunter. He had no desire to spill blood today. Nor did he desire to see Miss Valarie in such a hysterical state. Shooting skeet was one thing, but a living creature was quite another.

But he had no say in the matter. His current position did not allow him the luxury of tending to the distraught woman as he could not take his eyes from the wolves. The entire experience was turning his stomach sour, but he had no choice but to persevere.

"I said: 'GET'." He put a hard edge in his voice.

This entire situation was surreal. Wolves did not typically act like this-- not without provocation. And these wolves certainly did not appear to be rabid; they would have no fear if such were the case. It was perplexing.

Covering her eyes with her palm, the devestating sound of the trigger sounded quietly, but loudly at the same time. Her heart sunk carefully with fear, but no whimpers had been delivered. Instead, growls continued to sound in front of the two as the wolf pressed on, despite the fear being there. Only one began whimpering, the black wolf had begun to whimper in fear even though it had not been shot near it. Peeking out above her fingers at the black wolf, it's ears flat against it's beautiful black fur, it's eyes showing more fear than anything else, it's tail pressed between it's legs like a frightened dog. Valarie took a deep breathe of sadness for the poor animal, something rare to see. She didn't exactly hate animals, but after such a terrifying moment of their own meeting, she didn't know if she trusted these woods anymore. The fact the poor animals seemed to be more sad about a loss made her heart sink more, the white wolf was more angry about it than the black one had been earlier. The white one looked as if it was ready to jump at the man and bite his head, Valarie cringed in the slightest fear at the thought.

As he continued to try and shoo the animals away, they still refused to move which made Valarie anxious. What if he killed them? Was it her fault? What if they got in trouble for harming Saffron's wild life? It scared her about the thought, she just wanted to scream out for them to leave and they would obediently do so, but no matter how much she thought of it, she didn't think it would work. It wasn't working with Clay, so why would it work with her? "I-I'm starting to think, th-they're looking for so-something." she said a little quietly, not knowing if she sounded crazy or completely right. She just thought that's how it was, it reminded her of how she was when looking for her parents back in the mall, a big glint of worry and sadness mixed together would fill, proof stated in her eyes, the same thing showed in both of their scary like eyes. Valarie blinked before quietly taking breathes as the black one grabbed the white one's tail with it's teeth, as if trying to make it move.

Clay tried again, but nothing happened. "I think th-they are really stubborn." she added a bit in a mutter for herself, as if trying to compare creatures to herself was making any sense, what was wrong with her? It was honestly weird actually, she was comparing wild life to a calm and gentle lady named Valarie. The white one slowly stared at him, it's teeth still baring angrily at the man. Valarie looked at a stick not to far and quickly grabbed it before holding it in front of her as if it was a good defense mechanism.

Clayton didn't dare take his eyes off of the wolves, much less risk another glance at Miss Valarie. Her frowned at the two wolves. One was displaying an unusually high degree of intelligence and the other was displaying an unusually high degree of stubbornness. What he was expected to make of this, exactly, he didn't know.

Still Miss Valarie's explanation made about as much sense as anything else in this entirely messed up situation.

He lowered the revolver an inch-- just enough to remove the danger of it being an immediate threat but not quite enough to throw off his ability to fire at a moment's notice. Considering what he was about to do... Clayton could only conclude that he was about to take complete and full leave of his senses.

"If such be the case, what are you looking for?" He asked. A sense of concern had replaced the prior edge in his voice. "What is it that you want?"

Things were rapidly reaching the point of no return. If the white wolf continued this threatening advance, then Clayton would have no choice, for the safety of Miss Valarie and himself, but to shoot it. He needed some time, some space, to puzzle out this problem... because it was certainly not making sense as things stood now.

Valarie watched in confusion as Clayton begun to talk to the wolves, her eyes blinked softly as she began to turn to the wolves a bit frightened. Most people threw blonde jokes at her since she was clueless with such situations due to how she was raised, she was raised to be a perfect little princess and a beauty who was never to deal with such disgusting situations, but now that she was living without those parents of hers, she had to deal with those situations. If Valarie was alone somewhere else, maybe than she would've been more Valarie like instead of this scared and tiny little Valarie. She was confident, a flirt, all those common things amongst most women like her, but right now she was the complete opposite. She didn't even know herself right now, acting like a total wimp nearly.

The white wolf only growled even louder as if trying to talk, standing right in front of the man now, slightly lowered as if bowing down to Clayton or begging not to be shot, but it's teeth didn't disappear from it's angry face, only continued to bare angrily at Clayton. While the black wolf sat down with it's face buried in it's paws behind the white one as if asking it to stop, or in fear of seeing blood, Valarie held in tiny sounds, obviously adored by the reaction the black wolf was showing. Watching as the white wolf slowly began to approach a little more, though it was already close enough, Valarie's eyes widened as it looked ready to pounce Clay.

"I-It doesn't look to happy that you a-asked.." she quietly began to speak, watching it as it begun to look more and more ready to do so. Watching it a bit quietly, she felt her heart pumping loudly out of her chest as she watched it, the black wolf continued to hide it's eyes as if expecting the gun to fire at the white wolf and dye it a deep red.

A sharp crack filled the air, but the sound didn't come from the revolver. Instead the sound issued from the impact of Clayton's walking stick against the white wolves' skull.

The entire world must have gone mad. That was the only explanation for these strange and frustrating events that had transpired over the last ten minutes. Clayton was loathe to shoot the two wolves, if for no other reason than because they were displaying a remarkable amount of intelligence-- the sort that was, for lack of a better term, decidedly 'un-wolf-like'.

Indeed, he had already allowed the white wolf to grow far too close. He really should have ended its life by now. But... that nagging feeling in the back of his skull just refused to let him just yet. Despite this generosity, Clayton had to admit that their little stalemate was starting to wear his interest thin.

"Congratulations, my good wolf. For the first time in history, I am addressing an animal as a fellow sentient being." If the world were going insane, then Clayton decided that he might as well play along for the moment. "Now, then, either we can respect each other as sentient beings and you can kindly stop scaring my companion or we can go back to the point whereat I was about to shoot you. The decision is yours."

Twice now he had spared this wolf. There was no inclination to let there be a third time in the immediate future. He was far too exasperated for that.

Valarie stared at the whimpering white wolf as it lowered it's head to the ground, but in no way did the animal back away. It showed a great amount of fear, it's ears flat against it's head and it's eyes closed shut. Fear drifted quick in the air from the wolves, Valarie was already believing she was going insane despite just arriving to the island. Thinking she could talk to animals, that she could smell their fear. What kind of whacko person was she? The black wolf had begun staring at the two, backing away slowly with it's own ears to it's head and tail between it's legs, acting as if it was a dog instead of a wild animal. It wasn't even coming to the conclusion that these wild wolves were part of that little girl who was rumored to live in the woods. She had just got to the island, but was already hearing a billion rumors. One of which, caught her attention though she thought it wasn't true. No child could survive in the woods could they? Raised by wolves, how foolish. The wolves were right in front of her, sure, but that proved nothing for that theory. There could be a dozen more out there for all she knew.

Perking her ears at him as he talked, Valarie felt herself calming dwn for once in her life being on this island. This whole day she had been scared mindless about being around these wild animals, only to be relying on a man to help her. What kind of girl like Valarie did that? This didn't even sound like Valarie the slightest bit, Valarie was no girl to rely on someone, preferably a man, to rescue her. Sure, she had been screaming minutes ago about being surrounded by two wolves only to be rescued by the fellow gentleman, but she was pushing him to far into this dangerous thought. Staring at the revolver in the mans hand, she felt her heart pumping as she stood straight in her heels. The black wolf slowly circled around, treading in Clayton's direction, however, the wolf showed no sign of harm in it's presence, as it approached slowly. The white wolf itself also watched it walk. As she listened to the mumbled growling coming from the fellow trouble making white wolf, she eyed the black wolf that suddenly plopped into the forest floor right in front of his feet, and right in front if the white wolf.

"Mr. Clayton sir, maybe we should leave before we cause anymore harm to these fellows." she said it with a bit of calmness in her voice, showing she was not any scared female anymore as she had minutes ago. it may of seemed odd, as she had just been shivering and stammering like a scared mouse drenched in water, but now, she felt almost no fear in her body, seeing as the wolves meant no harm anymore. Backing away slowly, to leave a little distance between the two, she crossed her arms before raising an eyebrow as if asking him if he thought the same. Though, she believed that wasn't possible due to the fact she was the one who thought of it herself. They caused no more harm, so what was the point in shooting them? The wolf showed no more signs of wanting to bite one of them.

"That," Clayton replied. "sounds like an excellent idea."

He began to move backward, towards Miss Valarie, all the while never taking his eyes from the pair of wolves. Just because they had changed their mind about assaulting anyone did not mean that they could not change their mind again. Once some distance was put between the wolves and themselves, he would feel a lot better.

"As far as strange occurrences go, this is most certainly one of the most unusual." Clayton observed.
