Title: The College Football Thread
Description: The NFL Thread's little brother.
MementoVivere - September 2, 2011 01:16 AM (GMT)
Because this thread is needed, never mind it won't get as big as the NFL thread. Mostly making this so college discussion isn't lost in there once the NFL regular season and all the discussion it brings gets going.
If mods disagree with me, this board should have a merge option.
Anyway, moving on. What games are you looking forward to on this first weekend of football that counts? Me, I'm looking forward to the TCU-Baylor game, but more so the LSU-Oregon game. Hoping those suspensions don't fuck us over. I should have Five Guys for that game too, which automatically improves everything ever.
Also sick of hearing about scandals. They're pretty much reporters going for something small and inconsequential that will get hits/reads instead of tackling the elephant in the room, that being utterly broken and outdated rules. Yeah, I don't think LSU is clean (Jefferson had 49 pairs of shoes, you just KNOW he was getting paid somehow), but honestly? I don't give a fuck. I for one am glad to see kids making something. Everyone ELSE is making money off them.
*cue "the scholarship is their pay" arguments*

LSU - Oregon and Boise State - Georgia. I'm so effing glad that these teams decided to do away with the 'cupcake game'.
DrFreshey - September 2, 2011 02:13 AM (GMT)
Clemson-Troy this Saturday. I need to find out if I'm going to be able to usher at this one, or if I'm going to be stuck at home listening to the radio.
kmr95 - September 2, 2011 02:43 AM (GMT)
The LSU - Oregon game should be good. I can't wait for that one.
Also:

BOW DOWN, BITCH.

Fuckin' errybody's talking about the Boise - Georgia game. I'm actually excited for it, and I hate Georgia...
David Fisher - September 2, 2011 04:34 AM (GMT)
Woohoo. Going down to Baylor tomorrow. We gunna kick some Bear booty. Oregon-LSU is gonna be awesome (I hope). I heard tickets are going for almost $500 now. I would go, but that's a little too much for me. And I'll be home instead of here. I think Boise-Georgia is the first time I've ever rooted for an SEC team over a non-AQ. Georgia is super overrated, but dem dawgs can't be too much worse than Nevada was last year, right? Though Boise did lose that kicker.... Oh well. If they don't win, it's not the end of the world. Probably won't affect TCU's chances of winning up there too much. Those seem like pretty much the only three games worth talking about, unless I'm forgetting someone.

That's on at the same time as the Oregon-LSU game. =[
I'll likely flip back and forth during the two, but odds are I won't catch much of Boise-Georgia.
Also, Asfan, y u no root for Boise? SOMEONE has to ruin the power structure, and really one of the few schools that has any chance above zero to do so is Boise.
David Fisher - September 2, 2011 02:58 PM (GMT)
I figure if Boise loses against Georgia, they'll be less motivated against TCU. Bigger chance of winning = Me :). But if Boise did make it to the NC, I'd almost certainly root for them. Fuck the BCS.
Also, if you see a guy holding a sign that says "SportsCenter is next" and "Go Frogs" with a rose below it, that's totez my friend. You can try to spot me too. I'll be wearing purple and cheering for TCU.

TCU CONFIRMED FOR NO TITLE GAME
If you DIDN'T watch this game, you missed a great one.

>Baylor defense in general
LMAO WOW
...Wait, how did they win again? Oh.
>TCU kicking
>TCU corners
>Griffin III unleashing dem dragons
LMAO MY SIDES
Forgot that small detail.
Also, we came up with a new term for shitty passes: pigeons. We all know dragons are deep passes, generally completed. Pigeons are generally short and really shitty passes. The key is shitty, not just incomplete or something.
The more you know.

WELL IT LOOKS LIKE THE OBVIOUSLY SUPERIOR NON-AQ TEAM HAS DEMONSTRATED IT'S SUPERIORITY AGAIN TODAY

YoYoGuy435 - September 4, 2011 05:19 AM (GMT)
Well Missouri State University got their asses kicked by the University of Arkansas. I'm not surprised but I still wish we would've done better.
DrFreshey - September 4, 2011 04:50 PM (GMT)
Dabo better hope that the team can get its shit together by the 17th. Seriously, Clemson won yesterday, but they were losing at half-time. TO TROY. It was supposed to be a cupcake game. <_<
Also, since I was too tired to stay awake when I got home yesterday, who won the Georgia-Boise game?
David Fisher - September 4, 2011 05:11 PM (GMT)
That was kind of shitty/amazing/disappointing (in that order).
The bad:
- We can has new kicker? Perhaps Ro's kitteh?
- That defense was so terribad it makes terribad look good. Easily the biggest turnaround I've seen since the '07 Fins to '08 Fins. Ro's kitteh could have tore up dat secondary.
- On the last drive, Casey should have thrown the ball to an area that had some TCU player in the vicinity. Ro's kitteh could have seen that interception coming.
The good:
- Me gustan los kick returners. He/they was/were ama-zuh-zing, unless Baylor's coverage was just shitty as hell.
- If we play like we did that last quarter, we are confirmed for 12-1. 25 points in 10 minutes x 6 = 150 points/gaem. But that won't happen because people will actually pass.
- Pachall will be a beast eventually. He improved that much over the course of one gaem. He just needs to learn not to throw the ball to the other team in the last few seconds.
- A win against Boise State would still almost certainly get us to a BCS bowl. Hopefully their early Christmas gift from the MWC won't give them too much of an advantage.
- RG3 finally getting some recognition. I decay if you know this, but I liek Baylor too. Still rooting for Luck, but if RG3 were to get a nomination (or whatever they call them), I'd be teh happy. Hopefully Baylor does awesomely this year.
A few other things...
- ILLEGAL BLOCK IN THE BACK.... no number. kthx ref.
- For kmr: Georgia was probably the second or third most overrated team of the preseason (behind Notre Dame and possibly Florida State, depending on how they do). I'd much rather have played them than Baylor. Not saiyan TCU is the better team, but Boise isn't omgamazing for beating Georgia by two TDs. Also, >it's. Showing off that Boise State mastery of grammar, I see (lol6%4-yeargraduationrate).
But yeah, TCU-Baylor was obv gaem of the week. So much for Chokeregon-LSU being better.

David Fisher - September 4, 2011 06:20 PM (GMT)
I'd say we're probably better than Nevada was last year. Remember, TCU got off to a rough start last year against Oregon State too. We're like dem Chargers, only cooler.
dwestfan13 - September 4, 2011 06:46 PM (GMT)
You also have to remember that Boise successfully snagged defeat from the jaws of victory in that game. Clearly a fluke.
kmr95 - September 4, 2011 07:46 PM (GMT)
Boise State has obviously demonstrated their superiority when they beat TCU in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl.
BigMac - September 4, 2011 09:10 PM (GMT)
I'm happy mah Carolina managed to beat dem Pirates, even if we played like shit in the beginning.
Also, good for you Boise St, but seriously, it's Georgia. Boykin's probably the best offensive player on their team, and he's a defender.
Also, so much for Crowell. *goes to gloat to friends* It makes me lol how much people are trying to downplay it. "Hurr Boise would lose to other SEC teams hurr lulz." Who cares? You lost. Don't sugarcoat it.

TCU basically did the same thing Friday night. Two missed FGs, blocked extra point, failed fourth down conversion(s?).
LightningBolt - September 4, 2011 11:46 PM (GMT)
Is it really a fluke if you missed those FG's and PAT's because your kicker sucks ass? I mean, maybe if it was Vinatieri out there...

BSU's victory was far more recent, so no.

Your lolgic doesn't quite resonate with me.
David Fisher - September 6, 2011 07:11 PM (GMT)
Still ranked. Woot. Just need to destroy everyone else we play and have everyone we play do the same. A bit confuzzled at Texas getting ranked though. They beat Rice by 25 points (and Rice was within 11 at the end of the third). That isn't very good. Mad props to Rice (band) though:

Hopefully Baylor keeps its amazing offense and shrugs away that awful defense. BAYLOR FOR BIG 12 CHAMPS.
Alabama threw FOUR INTs against Kent State. I know the defense is supposed to be awesome, but I think that merits a dropping to worse than 3. Against a good team, you'll pay dearly for that many. My top 5:
1. LSU
2. Oklahoma
3. Stanford
4. Boise State
5. Oklahoma State
Still don't get the Florida State hype. The Seminoles weren't too impressive this week (or last year). Oklahoma State's defense isn't very good, but if I'd put them ahead of almost any other team in a shootout. That offense has some power in it. We'll see how they do soon. Don't know how good Arizona is supposed to be this week, but regardless, A&M is week 4. I think A&M is a little overrated too, but they could very well prove me wrong.
MementoVivere - September 6, 2011 09:23 PM (GMT)
Fucks given: none
All the major conferences are about money, as is the NCAA itself. It's why we'll almost inevitably see 16 team mega-conferences in a year or two. The media is also in it for the money, hence their "putting dope on the table" in the form of these scandals.
Also how the shit do you throw four picks against KENT STATE? As far as I know, that's supposed to be a cupcake game in which they run up huge POSITIVE numbers, not the negative ones.
It seems in lollege football, all you need to be highly ranked is to be a school people know, have a decent amount of returning starters, and have a decent recruiting class. Last year's record? Who gives a shit; it's about winning on paper, in polls, and on computers, amirite?

I honestly think someone is going to die during a game one of these days. Hopefully real safety change comes first and I'm proven wrong.
MementoVivere - September 9, 2011 08:36 PM (GMT)
Oh god, it's cupcake weekend. Hope there's one or two upsets in the bunch. Also hope the Lolabama-Penn State game is competitive.

Totally disproves my point. I accede to your SUPERIOR logic.
Anyway, no I haven't and I probably won't unless I get it/see it's close. Even watching Alabama-Penn State is going to feel like a chore if that game isn't competitive. There is literally nothing I'd call compelling just from looking at what's on, but who the fuck really knows?
BigMac - September 9, 2011 09:29 PM (GMT)
I was just pointing out that one game. I don't know about all the others. Don't have to rip my head off.
Anyways, I'd be surprised if you didn't get it, since it's on ESPN and nothing else is on.

TCU/Air Force should be good. Unless TCU just dominates.
Also, kinda realized... We're playing Air Force on 9/10. Are we unpatriotic if we destroy them?
MementoVivere - September 10, 2011 05:05 AM (GMT)
Other than LSU, my only loyalty is to chaos in the top 25 and/or the NCAA.
To that end, turn on Arizona State-Mizzou. It's on ESPN. 30-16 in favor of ASU at the moment. =]
EDIT: LOLMIZZOU. 37-30, ASU, 1 OT
I think I hate Mizzou out of principle. That nickname is like something a redneck would have given them. Now if there were any way Mizzou and Kansas could both lose when they meet...
