To celebrate the beginning of summer, and to raise money for the Descartes flood relief fund, the town of Mariet is holding a Summer Festival. Music, vendors, food and more will be available to the people of Mariet, with all proceeds going to help the people of Descartes as they recover from the flood.

The people of Mariet are invited to this beach festival and are asked to donate whatever they can to the people of Descartes. Fun in the sun and philanthropy? Who could ask for more?

The idea behind SOULMATE is credited to exhoxxash. Forum areas and descriptions credited to magnet dragon, piers, echoxxash and some members of the site. Grisham Park A quiet relief from the bustling city is Grisham Park. The park is a square half mile full of green grass, and it then extends further into the outskirts of the city, where it turns into more of a wasteland than a park. Two well-maintained acres of the park are fenced in for dogs - Dog Hill - and another area is reserved for children, with playground equipment. Also in the park are tennis and basketball courts, and frisbee and soccer fields. The rest of the land is riddled with hiking and biking trails, with the occasional stream cutting through the park. Donna's Cafe Coffee and Italian soda, Cobb salads and tiramisu. No place is better than Donna's for sitting outside on the patio, catching up with the news around town and meeting up with friends. Tim's Tin Tequila Shack This bar sits on a lot in the middle of the block. The original structure, owned by Tim, was burned down in a fire. Due to hard times Tim was unable to recreate the bar's original splendour, so the found himself with only one option: buy four slabs of tin and call it the new neighbourhood bar! Neon beer signs decorate the interior plywood walls, above booths with torn vinyl on the seats. the questionably 'clean' kitchen and sticky bar are the other fixtures of the Shack. Mariet Metro There's always a need for public transit, right? Well that's what the metro station is for. The main forms of transportation here are buses and trains, though if someone really wanted to they could call for a cab from one of the many pay phones located along one wall within the building. O Club The sound of loud, thumping techno and electronica music oozes from the cracks in the windows and under the door. Though it's dark inside O, colorful flashing and strobe lightning brighten up the dance floor. O is mostly a dance club, but also oxygen bar - hence the name. Mariet High School Mariet High School is a relatively small school, which permits a rather high standard of education. The school itself is set on a several acres, full of green grass and tree coverage. Mariet City Police Department The MCPD headquarters is located in a light grey building. The basement serves as a garage for all of the police vehicles, and floors one through five serve as offices, conference rooms, interrogation rooms, and booking rooms. Floors six and seven are the jail. When prisoners come in, they are taken to the showers and must strip, clean, de-lice, and dress in light blue and white striped jumpsuit. Baxter Cinema Although Baxter shows new movies the real attractions here are the older and cut films they play later on in the night. On the last Saturday of every month, a movie like Rocky Horror Picture Show is played, and people line the block donned in corsets and fishnets. On the other hand, Casablanca and Godfather are played periodically, and Baxter doesn't forget the Trekkies. Though Baxter plays the whole collection over and over again, who's complaining? Spectrum The aptly named gay bar, Spectrum, is decorated inside and out with lights, flags, neon lights, and colorful flowers. It's actually quite beautiful; once a grandmother posed her grandchildren outside the bar and took a picture. All the bar patrons, from leather clad to flannel, smiled out the window and burst into laughter after the grandmother waved goodbye and shuffled down the street. As for the age limit, Spectrum is known for not following the rules. They will allow teenagers in, but won't serve them... Unless they have a "sponsor". If the sponsor is of legal drinking age, 21, the teen in question can drink without worry, as long as the police aren't around. Swifty's Station There's nothing fancy about Swifty's. A small green and yellow building with eight pumps is conveniently situated on a corner. Inside the building sits the worker typically watching television or reading a magazine. There's candy, snacks, and limited car supplies to be bought... Limited in the most literal sense of the word. Mariet Hospital The hospital is painted a cheerful yellow, perhaps to offset the doom and gloom of death and pain often associated with such places. But paint or no paint, this place is buzzing, just like every other hospital in America. Mariet Fitness Center Here at the Mariet Fitness Center, release your inner health nut. This facility has everything you could need for a proper workout, including a weight room, cardio facility, swimming pool, basketball court, and gym. The Mall of Mariet The size of Mariet's Mall is not comparable to anything large or extravagant, but it is large enough. The mall contains a variety of shops, and there are a couple of famous designer shops. In the centre of the mall is a large, wide, circular fountain surrounded by benches in the open air; a perfect place to spend a moment of relaxation and rest the feet from a day of shopping. Juniper Avenue Before the days of Wal-Mart and the Mall of Mariet, you could come to Juniper Avenue. A bit like stepping back in time, Juniper features a brick road and antique benches and street lamps of Mariet days gone by. Storefronts with Victorian flare reveal antique shops, cafes, and up-scale boutiques. Mariet Cemetery The Mariet Cemetery is the only one within the city limits. To make up for the lack of others, this one is large and sprawling. It consists of rolling hills with graves of various shapes and sizes sticking out from the ground. At the entrance, just behind the wrought-iron gates, are several rows of vaults. These vaults come at high price; so they should, because the solid marble is kept impeccable bu the groundskeeper. Ink and Needles Ink and Needles is a contemporary tattoo shop with a nice feel to it. The walls are lined with artwork, either original pieces, or extracts from various comics. As you walk in you can take a seat and flip through the books for examples. There's usually someone sat at the desk, unless they're in one of the two 'studios'. The walls are light colored, and it's a fresh change to any of the grimy downtown studios. They rarely get complaints and that's the way they like it. Vincenzo Bellini Theatre Named after the southern Italian opera composer, this is the oldest and most beautiful building in Mariet. Built in the late 1800s, the facade is imported stone, hand carved and simply stunning. The interior is equally as elegant. The walls and the ceiling are painted with the gods and goddesses of Roman mythology, and beautiful scenery and castles. Many plays and operas come to the theatre and the local actor's association frequently put on shows though the year. Here, the lights are always glowing.	0	0	-- In: ---- By:
Obvious Obvious is anything but inconspicuous. The bar is located inside of the building painted a lush purple - purple is the color if royalty, so there were never any doubts about what Obvious' color scheme was going to be. The interior is very cabin-esque - exposed beans run along the ceiling, and a large free-standing open-air fireplace is set in the middle of he room. The bar is a light, shiny birch wood and lined alongside it are the gold plated, purple velvet bar stools. Without a doubt, one stool itself cost more than every item in Tim's Tin Tequila Shack put together. Think twice before you swagger into Obvious - there's a dress code. Black tie. Kingdom of Terror In the beginning. the Kingdom of Terror was the Kingdom of Fun. During those days, no one visited... only the occasional bored parents and ecstatic 6 year old. Clearly, Mariet wasn't, and isn't, much of a family city. Then, a few years after opening, "Fun" was crossed out and "Terror" replaced it. The roller coasters here have been given awards, and the water slides makes people wet themselves. The Skillet You know the cliche diner that everybody avoids because it looks like it's secretly a crack den? That's the Skillet. Run out of an converted doublewide on the side of the road, most of Mariet would pretend to ignore its existence completely, but a select few have taken the plunge and stepped into the seat-up diner. Those people are risk takers, and they're greatly rewarded for said risk. The Skillet has, hands down, some of the best down-home cooking you will ever eat in your entire life, and some of the nicest people you might ever meet. The menu changes at the whims of its married owners, Jim the cook and Babette the manager/head waitress. Balzac's Winery Although Balzac's is states away from a real vineyard, their wine is of impeccable quality, as if everything on their menu... and the price tag shows. Getting into Balzac's without a reservation is near impossible; the restaurant is very exclusive and upper class. A famous interior designer was hired to decorate Balzac's - dark, rich wood, matte silver fixtures and a deep red and light tan color scheme give Balzac's a gorgeous interior and captivating atmosphere. In the corner of the restaurant sits a beautiful grand piano and a sleek microphone, reserved for only the finest pianist and the most bewitching nightingale. Sweetie Pie Bakery Settled on the corner of Juniper and Chartres Street is an attractive little brick building that boasts an sign made up of a cupcake and the words "Sweetie Pie's". The bakery has a small open area right inside that leads up to a glass case that houses all of the fresh goodies made daily. Behind the counter is a wall that separates the bakery from the kitchen. To the right of the separating wall is a staircase (hidden behind a curtain) that leads up to the apartment that the bakery owner lives in. Olivier Apartments The Olivier Apartments are in an attractive building in a nice, quiet part of Mariet. The building used to be a cloth mill. After it's renovation it's got a typical 21st century style. It has a large water fountain as a centrepiece and beautiful English ivy climbs the building, grown to give the apartments a more expensive feel. Biltmore Apartments The Biltmore apartments are located in a bleak, red-brick building in the poorest area of the city (which is, admittedly not, that poor). Biltmore is much less exclusive than the other housing developments; anyone who can pay the first and last month's rent upfront can get an apartment. Due to this the rooms are generally smaller and the provided appliances aren't so up-to-date. The available apartments are studios, 1 bedrooms, 2 bedrooms and 3 bedrooms. There are 8 floors in total. Chartres Street The row houses on Chartres were all originally shotgun homes. However, in recent years many have had a second or third floor constructed leading to their change to camelbacks. Most have a small front yard, but none have a backyard because a small parking space takes up any possible space between the building, alley and the other building behind. Most of the houses are painted bright colours. Appleberry Court Appleberry Court was once military housing in the war and hasn't really been updated much since then. The housing is moderately priced and while not very attractive many residents take pride in their homes and lawns. Once upon a time, Appleberry Court was one of the most dangerous places to live in Mariet but recently crime rates seemed to have dropped. Decatur Street Despite the street's unglamorous past as the home of the main cloth mill in the tri-state area Decatur street is now one of the most affluent neighbourhoods in Mariet. The street is on the edge of the city even though it is classified as being in The Village. Mountain Laurel Terrace Every city has a trailer park and this is Mariet's. There isn't anything spectacular or even attractive about these mobile homes but that is not the point anyway. They are cheap, very cheap and affordability is what their inhabitants seek. The Beach South of Mariet there is a much liked, by citizens and tourists alike, beach. The sand is golden and the foamy tide laps against the shore. Sometimes, the tide goes all the way out, and miles of mud flats become accessible, inhabited by mussels, crabs and sea worms. J.L. Shedd's Zoo of Mariet The Zoo is a new addition to Mariet and it's somewhat small. There is a reptile house that has various different snakes, a pair of Nile monitors and a pair of caimans. The remaining enclosures are outside. The animals include a Bengal tiger pair, a male and two female lions, a maned wolf pack, a heard of bongos, gazelles, giraffes, zebras, warthogs and gorillas. Eleven species isn't bad for only a few years up and running. Due to the relatively small size of the zoo, the landscaping and the overall care of the animals is wonderful. Scenic and clean, J.L. Shedd, the founder has done Mariet proud and even managed to bring a few desperate tourists in! There is even a small petting zoo and farm in the back for the younger children to interact with animals. Woodland About ten miles from the heart of down town is a large, untouched forest. The Mariet government planned on flattening the land and redirecting the river that flows through it in order to erect a new, massive strip mall. Their ideas were put in the news paper and quickly came under scrutiny. Skatepark A result of the government's desperate efforts to drive the skating youth out of the inner city (where they might get injured) a concrete skatepark was built just outside of town. The Mariet government really pulled out all the stops on this one. There are half-pipes, quarter-pipes, handrails, fun boxes, vert ramps, pyramids, banked ramps, full-pipes, stairsets and various other objects whose names only really mean anything to people who actually skate. Pond To the south of The Village is a small pond, into which runs a narrow stream. The pond is nothing special - the water is dark blue, almost black and the surface is littered with lily pads. Around the edges of the pond are tall reeds and the occasional old oak tree.
