I teach at the university, so it is adults.
With children we prepare educational project - theatre performances, exhibitions... With topic that are taken from their life. Our main aim so to teach them to like theatre, that it is something regular and for everybody. The second thing is to help them deal with their problems by showing them a mirror - the theatre. -------------------- if im online, ill give you a hand (post me a link)

Years ago, I did a little acting for a local Christian theater group that traveled around the area, and theater does exactly what you mention--you can see yourself in a character or in more than one character on the stage. It definitely serves as a mirror!
