i tried counting every nth letter and anagramming what i got, but none of the words worked... am i on the right track here?

you're on the right lines, just find the starting letter, and no need to anagram!

Try starting in a different spot until you find a word that makes sense.

If you go to dictionary.com, one of the many definitions of "interval" is:

a space between things, points, limits, etc.
