Name: Avaras (Original designation Advanced Tactical Augmented Infantry Model 9X, serial 00000001, project designation PHOENIX)

Age: Since activation, 0, since completion, 239

Species: Synthetic Human - Essentially a clone, produced using extremely specific genetic code and other augmentations, usually with nanomachines. Designed as a replacement for human soldiers, synthetics are extremely tough, strong, and very difficult to kill, as their regenerative and combat abilities are far beyond that of an ordinary human's. They are, however, still based on the human 'blueprint', and as they are not machines they are susceptible to death by excessive bleeding, trauma, extreme organ damage, though they are not vulnerable to death by old age. However, as mentioned, it takes a great deal more severe injuries to disable or kill a synthetic as opposed to a human, and injuries are typically much more difficult to inflict. The project, however, was canceled due to problems training and imparting consciousness on the 'products', and because the main laboratory was almost completely destroyed during the war. However, centuries later, it seems someone else was able to get their hands on the prototypes...

Gender: Male

Physical Characteristics : Tall, pale skinned, with reddish brown hair and golden yellow eyes. Muscular and extremely athletic, though his skin tends to take a very slight bluish hue rather than red when bloodflow is increased - his blood is blue, after all, as opposed to red, being primarily composed of nanomachines and artificial plasma. As a synthetic, despite his mostly human appearance, he is extremely strong, incredibly so, even beyond most nonhumans, though he possesses little in the way of true magical ability - this is compensated, however, with an ability to manipulate forms of pure energy to create shields or basic energy waves for attack. This power, however, is somewhat unstable in some cases, possibly linked to what the unknown man who excavated the laboratory did to him...
He regenerates extremely quickly, fast enough to watch in most cases, and so long as severe and extensive injuries are not created and the central core (a silver organ near his heart that is the source of most modifications) remains mostly intact, he can recover from almost any injury, or even regrow limbs which have been removed. The nanites are designed to attack foreign bodies, which makes him extremely resistant to disease, and also makes his blood very dangerous for any other being to consume, as the nanomachine can and will attack if devoured.
Needs a WARNING: HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED label.

Personality: Picture this. You were born and trained, even if subconsciously, to fight in a war that was finished centuries ago. On top of that, you have no idea where you now are or what you are supposed to be, since the purpose for which you were made is no longer valid. And, on top of that, you feel something on the edge of your consciousness that, while you have no idea what it is lurking there, you are instinctively afraid of.
That more or less sums up where Avaras is, mental stability-wise.
He has no experience with social situations or with the world as it is now, and will constantly have to learn what the hell it is he is supposed to do, a certain confusion which is easily mistaken for detachment, as he displays little emotion. His default reaction to any perceived threat is combat, which is another problem, though without a specific purpose he is very reluctant to kill. He is someone without a purpose, and searching for one in the people he finds, either to protect or to attack, whatever it is that might show him what he is supposed to do in this world he was never meant for.

History : Avaras was created towards the end of the war, in a last ditch, desperate attempt to create soldiers who could win the war against all odds, to save a small and failing country from total destruction by the larger forces closing in on it from either side. The project was mostly a success, and the final problems - those with developing a true sentience for the weapons, an ability to think and act independently, that eluded the developers.

They were too late.

The attacks came the night before they were to test the new modifications. The results were devastating - the country, and much of the laboratory was destroyed outright, and most of what was left collapsed in on the underground sector where the project was taking place. There the 'weapons', the few that survived, remained. Buried, forgotten, but saved from the nuclear war that followed only six years later, sleeping in the pods they had been born into, and waiting for the day their creators might find them again. They never did, sadly.

The man who DID find the lab was a sorcerer of sorts, and almost immediately recognized the potential in the forbidden technology before him. He began performing his own experiments, his own tests, and summoning spirits, creatures, fusing them with the artificial humans within the tubes, to create his own perfect soldiers. What happened then is unknown. Notes left by the man since then say as much, but all that is sure now is that the tubes which were not destroyed are emptied, their contents taken, the 'human' within them gone... all but for one...
