Title: Freeform RP Planning and Discussion
Description: Yeah...

Masterly - January 3, 2010 07:42 AM (GMT)
I know we have a DnD game that's kind of going on and off. But would anybody express interest in a more Freeform Role play? I'm not sure how it'd go, or how it would work but I am curious as to what every one thinks about it.

Ryuu - January 3, 2010 09:46 AM (GMT)
I don't like automated dice rolls(they have no soul) so I would enjoy this

Vuanaunt - January 3, 2010 08:42 PM (GMT)
That sounds cool, but I'd rather try to keep the D&D going.

...But it is dying right now.

Kristof - January 3, 2010 08:44 PM (GMT)
I would be interested, I think.

You can do both you know

Lord_Shadow - January 4, 2010 01:35 AM (GMT)
I fully support this! Who says we have to limit ourselves to one game? We can play as many games as we want before the sheer number of them make us go insane! So... yeah I'd join. Freeform RP huh? Sounds like fun! *grin* (YOU SAW NOTHING!)

Youknow... I could do both...

Anyways, count me in whenever get around to doing this.

So a few people did in fact express interest. At first I thought "That's great, we can start it soon" but then I remembered I had no idea what I was doing. Hopefully this thread can remedy that little problem.

So I'm assuming this will be a GM-less RP. I think there should be a few people in power, but they'll only step in when things go completely out of hand (which I don't think should happen). Everybody has their own characters and they'll guide them how they wish. Since this is a Freeform RP, it is especially susceptible to god-modding. So anybody who is accused of it will have their performance reviewed by the Council of Eight. Which may or may not in fact have 8 council members.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way. What kind of setting would everybody go for? I'm partial to Fantasy, but I'm willing to spread my wings a little and try something else.

Lord_Shadow - January 4, 2010 02:35 AM (GMT)
Fantasy, is where I'm leaning.

But if enough people want Sci-Fi...

(Or a blending of the two... oooh!)

Vuanaunt - January 4, 2010 02:49 AM (GMT)
Anything with magic really.

Masterly - January 4, 2010 02:59 AM (GMT)
Sci-fi and fantasy.

How about a VRMMO? (Virtual reality MMO)

I'm cool with that, but I vote we let more people say their minds before we finalize it.

Ryuu - January 4, 2010 03:12 AM (GMT)
how about anyone who has an idea makes a character creation thread for it and then if it gets enough players we can go with as many as we can

Kristof - January 4, 2010 03:20 AM (GMT)
That sounds good. VRMMO sounds really cool imo. I'm particularly keen on that.

Genoraven - January 4, 2010 04:46 AM (GMT)
Maybe, depending on how it works.

Genoraven - January 4, 2010 04:47 AM (GMT)
As long as it has psionics >.> well it doesn't HAVE to...

Masterly - January 4, 2010 05:18 AM (GMT)
Alright here's what I got so far.

Korean MMOish
Flesh Golems. A characters soul resides in one of these vessels. These are bodies created by the gods of [whatevs]. Exactly the same as the human body in all ways, the only difference is that if a flesh golem is killed, the gods would take the remains and ressurect it and its user in the last town where they had registered their presence at a temple.

WoW (Me being lazy with ideas and fluff)
You take the corpsewalk of shame back to your body.

Ryuu - January 4, 2010 05:52 AM (GMT)
I corpsewalk a lot. : (

But that's just because the Alliance is mean.

...this has little to do with this thread.

Kristof - January 4, 2010 01:04 PM (GMT)
Korean MMOish seems like it'd be the easier way of doing things...

caldera - January 4, 2010 08:10 PM (GMT)
I don't know if the whole death/ resurrection thing is that good of an idea. In theory it prevents the problem of people walking out because their characters die, but I think it can limit story progression if villains start coming back after you kill them off.

Btw, I vote fantasy, but if its just going to turn into WoW, I would rather go with sci-fi.

To me a WoW RP would seem boring/overused/possibly-the-most-generic-RP-ever.

I think he's aiming for more of a .hack-type story

EDIT: I FORGOT TO WRITE THE REST OF MY THOUGHT

so dying isn't really a bad thing and it will frankly be unavoidable in some encounters. or something.

caldera - January 4, 2010 08:23 PM (GMT)
Ok, I would be fine with that.

how do you people want to do combat in the rp?

That was my thought.

In regards to dying, there's always the possibility of some kind of glitch that makes the game unsafe.

caldera - January 4, 2010 08:45 PM (GMT)
who says its a glitch...

so its the Matrix, but in a fantasy setting? That sounds good to me.

Lord_Shadow - January 4, 2010 09:24 PM (GMT)
You know... death is just a slap on the wrist anyway. But I digress... (Darn TV Tropes and your trope entries)

I like this idea, VRMMO(ish) works even better for the kind of character I'm planning. *SUPER GRIN* (Again, you saw nothing)

Oh, and we do need the possibility of absolute death... like if someone got mulched into chunky salsa or something. (Hard to come back from that. Possible, but hard to.)

Vuanaunt - January 4, 2010 11:11 PM (GMT)
Wait is it a .hack// setting with sci-fi elements, or a Matrix setting with fantasy elements?

I'd like something closer .hack//
I can either.

I'd also prefer death to be somewhat serious, but that's less important to me.

Masterly - January 4, 2010 11:18 PM (GMT)
How would everyone feel about a world very (very) loosely based off of AE.

Ryuu - January 4, 2010 11:19 PM (GMT)
I'm just gonna say again that there's no need to have a specific kind of rp that tries to appease everyone

whoever makes it should just have whatever kind of world they want. the limitations and freedoms of their world is what makes an rp fun.

Lord_Shadow - January 5, 2010 01:42 AM (GMT)
This is actually really good, and no one else even has characters in it yet. (Besides Masterly... but that might change soon.)

Question: Can I insert a character* of my own composition? (*Read: Character that already has a vaguely established back story, goals, and personality)

If so, the addendum: How do you feel about inserting a Humanoid Eldritch Abomination* (Read: A human with EDIT:about as much power as 700 Cthulhu's so much power it isn't even funny. Really.) ... in one of these 'flesh golems'. (Meaning SEVERELY DEPOWERED a.k.a NOT OVERPOWERED) [Read: Just as strong as everyone else... thankfully]

I dunno, I'd have to take it up with my Council of Eight.

...which just happens to just be me at the moment...

Kristof - January 5, 2010 01:52 AM (GMT)
This is cool! I will make it into a new thread and we can get going shortly if that's cool with everyone.

caldera - January 5, 2010 03:00 AM (GMT)
I think I'll make a character too, just give me a bit, and I'll have one up.

Masterly - January 5, 2010 06:27 AM (GMT)
Feel free to write whatever you want in here. At least until the new thread pops up.

Kristof - January 5, 2010 01:26 PM (GMT)
Any ideas for a name for this thing?

Ryuu - January 5, 2010 06:08 PM (GMT)
before I start this, is this a mmo from the perspective of the characters or is this a real-people-trapped-in-game type of thing

Kristof - January 5, 2010 06:09 PM (GMT)
I'm hoping/guessing the latter.

Ditto. And modern language won't seem out of place.
