For all my talk of how important this Book was in the overarching story of Remember, what I pretty much glazed over is it's immediate impact on Igon.

Igon, just like Rain, was prepared for Maeter leaving home, but he talks with faculty and whatnot from the Academy on a near-daily basis. At least then, if he wanted he could pop over to the Academy student housing and see her. Now, she won't even be in the same solar system, and he's more than aware of just how far away she's going. 300 lightyears (That's ~1,763,589 billion miles, for those wondering, but no, he can't just greater teleport there). He does have the nine gate tokens to visit her, but for them to work, the reformat needs to finish messing up the omnigate network, and Maeter needs to actually get there. For the moment, they're useless.

Meanwhile, when Maeter left, he was completely unaware of what was happening with Tala & Rain. As far as he knew, Tala was still going to be sat at the dinner table tonight. So not only was he unprepared for Tala leaving home, she's also gone to a completely unknown plane of existence (Because reality maelstrom chooses where it ends up randomly)

So, in the course of one day, Igon's lost both of his daughters. They're both alive, but the chances he'll see them anytime soon are unbelievably remote. Igon's brain really can't handle that right now, despite all the trauma he's already endured.

Unfortunately for Igon, he's still got more to go through before he finally becomes what Avbaroy really needs of him. He's done well at keeping it stable, but he needs more before he can fix it.
