AMD Phenom X4 9850 2.5Ghz Black Edition (multiplier unlocked)
J&W JWTN570SLI Motherboard
2Gb DDR RAM

Should be interesting to see how good the Phenom is. According to reviews I've seen it is neck and nect with Intel's Q6600 but at almost $100 less.

I don't know Zyb. I just paid:

CPU INTEL|C2Q Q6600 2.40G 775 8M R 1 $209.99

The Phenom was more, I priced them.

I built this thing last evening/this morning and all I can say is wow! I'll OC some more once I study this board. DFI makes some great boards but I hate a no boot situation with this thing. I have to pull the bottom card, remove the battery, reset both jumpers or it will not boot. I do have a back-up in the CMOS that will boot and allow me to reset defaults and start over. Hotkey 1 on a no-boot and you have a 50-50 chance of getting lucky. If not.......... angry.gif .

Like I said, I need to study this bios. It ain't easy but 3.6 is a possibility.

I have some early benches like 17000+ in 06 and 7000+ in Vantage but I haven't figured out where I am with this rig yet. I know I can push further than where I am. Time will tell.

Intel Q6600@3.2 ghz
DFI LanParty LT X38-T2R
4 gig mushkin ddr2 1066
PC power and cooling 750 watt
2 HD 3870's crossfire X
Zalman 9700
2 Lite-on combo 20x52x
2 Seagate 160 sata 7200 rpm
Windows Vista Ultimate 64

The phenom is a LOT less than Intel's quads here. Probably because our dollar isn't as fucked up as yours it.

Nah, we just mark the shit up and send it your way. I can't help it if a Phenom is cheaper than a Quad can I?

Hell! I didn't make, market, or sell the damned chips.

Ain't my fault. BTW, how much is a Q6600 going for in the land of Aus?

ok I want to overclock my puny computer a bit, even to reach 9800+ in 06, I had to increase the cpu from it's standard 2.4 gig to 3.00gig, at a fsb of 300.
The bottleneck is the old 8800GTS 320m/b video card, but as I never play games I saw no value in buying a faster one.
I also get different readings from using different programs.
this is Everest.

Well when I ordered the Phenom (from the US) a Q6600 bought locally was a bit under $100 more. The price has adjusted in the last few days as intel seems to have done a price drop on its chips here, probably because they don't want anyone buying AMD.
I think Intel might be a little bit worried about the tripple core phenoms actually. While there are very few apps that can are optimized for 4 cores, a LOT are happy working with 2 cores, and the x3 phenom is great for them (the remaining core is gobbled up by windows) and it sells for the same or less than a Q2D.

I think AMD is just biding their time till intel get the shit beat out of them by the courts for the illegall actions they did during the past 15 years.

So, you get the 4870?

I have one (have had for a few months) but never got around to installing it into a PC. Too late now anyway, so I'll have to sell it.
