Jin couldn't believe some of the crap they sold in New Age shops. Stones and crystals promising protection, books offering knowledge that they had no right to offer... And fluff-books on Wicca. That was her favorite. Jin was a practicing Hellenic Reconstructionist, and Wicca just made her eyes twitch. All the mixing of Gods and Goddesses and refusal to deal with dark magic... It was ridiculous.

She had come here for a custom design from the shopkeep. She'd ordered it weeks ago and it was finally done.

"Hey," she said to the shopkeep, nodding her head. "You have my ring in?"

"Yep." The keep knelt behind the counter and handed her a package. "Don't know what you want a ring like that for, but I got it."

Jin took the ring out of the package and smiled. It was more of a guard than anything. She'd wear it on her right hand, and it would cover her entire middle finger. If she bent the finger enough, a blade would shoot out and she could stab an attacker. "Fantastic," she breathed. "How much?"

The man behind the counter shrugged. "Seventy bucks."

Jin reached into her purse and pulled out her wallet. "You get many oddballs in here?"

" Oi, you shouldn't have a Kryklyo amulet hanging off the mummified bog hand. All you need is a crawling,avenging....thing," came the voice from under the floor. Well, it wasn't so directly, as on the narrow staircase leading down into what she considered the 'fun' part of the shop.

Lakota found these little New-Agey places...cute. A lot of white-lightey, prose-laden, RHYMING little snips of bad poetry and bushels of burning sage. Even without the keen sense of smell, it was enough to choke you. So it was much to her surprise to find that the little man out front actually had a huge store of worthwhile reading and other...accoutrements in the basement.

Lucky her. It was rare to find any histories or spellbooks written from demonic lore, and where she didn't dabble..it was interesting enough. So it was commonplace to see Kota, much like now, with her nose shoved in a book as she wandered around the store....pausing every so often to cite a particularly gory bit to other shoppers. Speaking of...She glanced up, smiling a little too brightly on seeing the shopkeep speaking to a customer," Posessed hands have nothing on the process to properly prepare kitten entrails for pixie repellent, though."

Jin turned and raised an eyebrow at the other customer, slipping her new ring onto her finger. "So you do get oddballs," she muttered.

The shopkeep grinned. "Every so often. Here's your change..." He handed her a wad of bills and she sorted through them before placing them in her wallet.

"I hear kitten entrails don't make a good pixie repellent," she told the other woman with an innocent smile. "Small puppies work better."

Jin hadn't seen this woman around before, and she hated that she didn't know everyone in the city. Or what everyone was. She was just dying to try out her new weapon-ring, and the only way to do that was to find a vampire.

Lakota narrowed her eyes at the shopkeep," And we 'oddballs'keep your till full asking for all that black market tripe downstairs." Glancing back at the other woman, she couldn't help but chuckle a bit, at the remark.

" True enough. Can't tell that to Musty-and-Archaic,"she replied, snapping the book closed," But it's an amusing read." Dropping the book on the counter, she scrunched her nose up at the small puff of dust it caused, trying not to sneeze. "Disadvantage to a sensitive nose, that," she sniffed, turning her attention back to the little man behind the counter," I owe you, what now?"

"Two-twenty-seven," the book already being bagged and handed off as he spoke,"Plus tax...By the way, 'Nessa, did you ever get that Andar Scroll you promised me last week?"

She stared blankly at him a moment before everything clicked. 'Riiight. Gave the alias, you ninny' "Ah! Well, no. Not yet at least. The seller's being difficult, yadda yadda," she laughed a bit nervously, looking back between him and the other customer...What? She didn't wander off yet?," I'll work on it more tonight, yeah? Which, time's wasting and all." Fighting the urge to reach over and tear the keep's larynx out, Kota pulled a wad of bills out of her coat pocket instead. " Keep the extra, yeah?"

For some reason, she wanted out of the shop just then. Rarely one to be nervous over nothing, Lakota found there was something...niggling at the back of her mind. Centuries old and you're all wavery over a 'feeling'. Good job,woman...

Jin watched the other customer with narrowed eyes. Talk about suspicious. And why did the shopkeep buy from private sellers? It wasn't necessarily an unheard-of practice, but it certainly wasn't very common.

She cleared her throat and nodded to the keep. "One more question for you about supplies. Do you know where I can find someone who would sell a pure silver dagger? Price is no problem."

The keep frowned in thought. "Well... You might try a weapons shop. I could find someone to make it for you, but it would take a while."

"How long are we talking?"

"Months."

Jin scowled. "Never mind, then. I'll check the local dojo." She nodded to the keep and the other customer before leaving the shop and blowing out a slow breath. She could feel that other woman's anxiety and had to shake it all off. She hated when she was around anxious people...

Lakota found herself frowning as she watched the other woman leave. The chit had been, well...prickly. It hadn't been in demeanor so much as a subtle source of power that had her skin crawling. No one ordered a pure silver weapon unless Weres were involved,either.Great. Another Hunter.

"I'll get that to you in a couple days,"she promised the keep while taking her bagged purchase,"Thanks." Getting a nod in response was good enough, she supposed. It wasn't often anyone liked doing business with vampires, even when properly equipped to 'deal' with them....Especially not if they were normally on the menu. Kota tended to leave the magick-users alone like a good little demon. And they think we're unpredictable, she mused while walking out the door. It was just early enough to catch a bite (horrible pun intended) at The Underground before toddling off back home.

Was she getting soft in her old age? Perhaps, but neither was she stupid enough to hunt when the city's Mistress forbade it. " Gods, I'm starving." Well, maybe more than one willing pomme de sang...

It only took Jin turning a corner before she saw the suspicious customer from the shop. She frowned and slowed her pace, trying to get any sort of feeling from the woman. She wasn't anxious anymore, that was certain. But she was ... something. It was rather indiscernible from this distance.

She approached the woman slowly and carefully. "Hey," she called out. "You okay? You seemed sort of anxious in there."

There were a number of possibilities for the woman's nervousness, but in this part of town, Jin liked to narrow it down to two: She was either a vampire or a potential victim. And either way, Jin could be of some help. If the woman was a victim, Jin would guard her. If she was a vampire, Jin would kill her.

It was very simple, really.

"Hell,"she breathed out, turning her head to see who was approaching. Finding it to be the other customer from the store was a bit of a surprise. Slightly confused, she quirked a brow at the woman," M'fine. Just a little socially awkward, I 'spose. Difficult to talk shop when other people in the vicinity."

Lakota schooled her face into a friendly smile despite the fact that the crawling feeling she'd gotten in the shop was back...and bloody annoying.

Judging from the girl's purchase, and the niggling sense of danger, Kota was really just looking to move along. When did you ever avoid a confrontation before? Giving a glance to the wicked piece of 'jewelry' on the girl's hand, she tried to quickly weigh her options; it might hurt like a bitch, but it wasn't exactly threatening to her existence. Though, she also knew someone with ability when she saw- well, felt it. Nosy humans she could roll or dispose of. A Hunter or vigilante? Well, that was an annoyance she'd leave to younger, ignorant vampires.

" Thanks for caring and all. See you around, yeah?", she replied, moving to continue down the sidewalk. Knew I damn well should have used the roof top...
