It was painfully obvious that she was in unfamiliar territory. Not only was the language completely different, the customs, food, and surroundings were different as well. Her mountains were missing, as were the rich, beautiful sounds that normally accompanied her as she walked down the street.

Sayuri Tanaka reached Platform Nine-and-Three-Quarters and set her trunk down. Strange people surrounded her on every side, people twice her height, people with strangely translucent skin and odd spots called freckles, and people that had every shade of hair imaginable. She missed people that looked like her, people that reminded her of her numerous brothers and sisters she’d left behind in Japan. Being the youngest sibling was terrible when your siblings were all at least ten years older.

Crossing through the entrance, Yuri followed the crowd to the Platform and struggled to get her trunk up. Baka, Sayuri mentally cursed the trunk, wondering which of the idiotic British had decided to make the train so high off of the ground. It’s practically impossible to lift this stupid thing. Plus, Papa made me promise to use only English when I use my wand. I can’t pronounce the words well enough to use a spell! Oh Buddha, what am I going to do? Sayuri silently prayed for someone to come along and save her… but who?

She was slim, green-eyed, and smiling. Well...perhaps “smiling” wasn’t the correct terminology for what she was doing. It was more of a half-smile-smirk. Whatever it was, she was doing it with a practiced air, a glint in her jade eyes.

As the dark car slowed to stop, her smile grew slightly as she waited for the driver to hurry around and open her door for her. When the door was swung wide, she turned gracefully on the leather seat and extended one leg out and onto the curb. Her body followed until she was standing erect in front of Kings Cross Station, London.

The young woman clicked towards the magical platform, preparing herself for the new experience of attending an English boarding school instead of the old norm of the American high school that she was used to.

Her Aunt Iris saw her off from Platform 9 3/4, and Virgo was rather glad to see the last of her for awhile. It wasn’t that she didn’t like her aunt and uncle, it was just those few small things that had started to get on her nerves while she had been staying there. Her mother, Simone Faye, was to be the new Transfiguration teacher at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. That was why her daughter, Virgo Faye, had been forced to live with her mothers sister for the few remaining weeks of the summer.

Virgo had progressed several carriages down the train when she came upon a trunk that seemed to be attempting to push itself onto the train. Looking closer, Virgo was able to see a small, black head peeking up from the platform end of the luggage. “Sayuri?” Virgo questioned, for she wasn’t quite sure if that’s who the head belonged too. As she spoke, however, the steam from the engine cleared slightly, and she was able to make out that it was indeed the small Asian girl that she had met earlier that summer in Diagon Alley.
