[River Tam]

River stood with Dahlia in the room she had been given, which was across from hers. She didn't stay in her room, since Simon was pacing in his room, then would move to her room and pace some more. You'll be fine, mei mei, you're doing the right thing... She was wearing a dark dusky pink dress, a little like her dark blue one. Dahlia was wearing a nice blue flowered dress, since she wasn't part of the wedding party.

"He will be fine, River," the blonde girl said quietly as she watched Simon pacing nervously. "They really love each other." She blinked, then she looked at her friend. "You look beautiful, mei mei!"

River bowed her head, acknowledging the compliment. "She is a good sister, we play jacks and chase each other around."

Regan Tam came in and saw the two girls and smiled. "You two look so beautiful!" she said.

River smiled at her mother. "I missed you, Mother," she said.

"Come back with us and stay for a while."

The dark-haired girl frowned. She looked at her mother with a wistful look in her dark eyes. I can't go back, Mother, not ever...

"You're right, I was wishing aloud," Regan said as if she knew what her daughter was thinking.

[Inara Serra]

Inara was standing in her shuttle with Kaylee and Michaela, getting the young girl ready for her big day. She had more space than Kaylee's room or even the small cubbyhole with the hammock in the engine room. She also had more makeup and accessories to make Kaylee look even better than she had the day of the ball a couple of years ago.

She was dressed in an elegant red and gold dress and her hair was swept up and curled into ringlets around her soft round face. But Kaylee, the Companion assured herself she wasn't outshining the bride.

"You look so beautiful, Kaylee," she said, stepping back to look at her handiwork.
