Maize is the name the residents have given to a small tribal village located near what used to be a highway in central Kansas.

The village is bordered by a stream on one side, the highway on another, and wild cornfields on the third and fourth sides.

The cornfields close to the village are better maintained than the wild fields farther away, and provide a primary food source, along with meat from various wild animals living in the surrounding area, primarily feral dogs. Hunting is done primarily with spears.

The village is composed primarily of tents, both modern and vintage, and hand built tepees.

Government structure is nearly non-existent, though important decisions are made democratically.
