Can players do narrative one person threads in London/the world sections? Like say I want to write out a short scene with my character and an NPC, could I do that? Or would it be better to just assume it happened?

Yes, players can do narrative threads within the IC playing section if they want. All we ask is that if you're going to do something major with an NPC (ex: kill them), please let the mods know.

This game looks cool, but I'm still a little confused because I'm not used to roleplaying on forum boards. Will there be no use for lots of icons/avatars? Where exactly can you post threads and the like? Do you have your own... journal or the equivalent of one in a forum board?

Thank you! Flattered to hear the game caught your interest. As someone who started on journals first, I definitely can understand how different forum playing can seem from journals. I assure that once you start playing on it, it doesn't seem too different. Now, to answer your questions:

Will there be no use for lots of icons/avatars?

No, you won't need a lot of icons/avatars. In forums you only get to use one avatar for your account. Because the site only allows users to upload one avatar, many players also include a banner in their signature so to have extra image of their character.

Avatars are generally 175 pixels by 200 pixels but they can go up to 200x by 200x. We recommend players host the avatar images on Tinypic or Photobucket and use the URL to upload it to the board so that it will stay the proper size.

Now, as to how you upload an avatar, once you create a user login and log on to the board, you will see a bolded link on the right side under the game banner called MY CONTROLS. Once you go click that link you'll be brought to your control panel and on the left is a menu list. Scroll down till you find edit avatar settings and that's where you can add your avatar.

Edit: I just wanted to add that if you need an avatar, the mods and many of the players are handy at making graphics and will gladly make avatars and banners for you if you ask.

Where exactly can you post threads and the like?

Threads must be posted in the IC section which I've linked here: Link. As you can see there are a variety of sections. Now, if you wanted to post a thread with your character at a shop then you would have to post your thread in the shopping subforum here: Link. To start a new thread you then click the New Topic button ( Image link).

You'll then see a page link this: Link. Topic title is for the thread title and players use topic description for things like who's taking part, OTA, time, etc. To see the format we use, please have a look at some threads in the game to get a feel for the posting format.

Do you have your own... journal or the equivalent of one in a forum board?

You have an equivalent which is your user login or your user name. To create one, you have to register on the board here: link with your character's First and Last name. For Example: John Thomas is an acceptable login. johnthomas is not acceptable, nor is just john or your name. It must be the character's name and for each character you create, you must have a separate login for that character with their name.

The major difference is that you will not have a physical journal for your character to post in. We do know that some players like to write IC journal posts however so we created a section here: Link.

I hope I have answered your questions and if I haven't, please comment back to let me know. If you have any further question, please don't hesitate to ask. I'd also like to suggest that you look around the board, read the essential posts and maybe a few threads to get a feel for the game and how it's played.

Are the metahumans allowed to be oblivious with regards to their power? o: Like, they could have had it for a year and they wouldn't have known?

Depending on the power, yes the character could be unaware of it for a long while or even the whole year. For example, such is the case with Sebastian Ford who has power negation. Since his power no obvious outward effect on him or no visible signs, the character is completely unaware of his power.

A question about IC cbox. Is strike through text readable? For example: Text like this? I know in some places it's considered text that was written then deleted but it's different everywhere so I just wanted to know.

Edit: I didn't make my question very clear. What I meant is:

Strike out text is sometimes used in IC chats, journals, etc. to represent something that the character has written but then deleted. The strike out text is not considered as something the character can read but rather just something for the other player. To sort of give an insight into what the character is thinking or their personality but without actually having to say it. For example:

Character A: Are you going to the party?

Character B: Party? What party? No one ever tells me these things! Maybe, I haven't made up my mind.

My question is: Would strikeout text be allowed to be used in this manner in the IC Chat box? Or would other characters still be able to read it as regular typed text IC?

While the mods are familiar with the use of strike out text to represent deleted text, we think that this could confuse players who aren't familiar so to avoid misunderstandings and confusion, we think it's better if strikeout text is considered readable by the characters in the IC chat.

Sidebar: As far as we're concerned, everything written in the IC chat box is readable by all characters in the game. So if players do want to have their characters chat privately they should do so over an email, IM or phone thread.

Neato site. I've been looking around and I'm keen on joining but had a question: If I brought in a human, could they be part of the HPC?

Yes, human characters can be part of the HPC if the player wants. All was ask is that players run any major plots or statements about or involving the HPC by the mods first.

Heya! I'm interested in joining the game, but the character I'm envisioning has... issues with his real name. Like, he shares it on a strictly need-to-know basis, and even then, it might be kind of... well, fake. Do you have any idea how I might be able to do this with the whole First Name Last Name set-up the board employs? Should I go for the full fake name, perhaps, and might I be able to change it later on, if and when the truth comes out?

Hi Cris, glad to hear you're interested. To answer your question, the mods would recommend registering with the character's true name and then putting in the character's application bio that they will be using an alias, maybe even adding a extra note in the application about the alias. If you wanted, you could even make the character's member title the alias if you want it somewhere everyone will see it when they look at your character. Now the reason we suggest registering the character's true name is because:

1) We think this will cause less confusion for other players for when the character's real name comes out or when the character starts using it.

2) To prevent accidental duplication. We don't allow duplication for first names and while this may not be an issue at the moment, it could turn out to be one. For example:

Say your character's true name is Jason Moore but they go by the alias Frank Martin so you register Frank Martin. Then say a week later another player, not realizing your character's true name is Jason, ends up registering that name, therefore making it unavailable to you when you are ready to change it. Meanwhile, anyone who might be interested in the name Frank, can't use it because it's already taken temporarily.

Now, that may never happen but it is possible and if it did happen it would put the mods in a tight spot as we'd have to figure out who do we ask to change their name. The way we see it, if you register with the character's true name then at least you'll be guaranteed to have it when you want to start using it and in the game you can then use any alias or even multiple alias without having to worry about the name change.

I hope this answered your question but if it didn't, please let us know.

Thanks for the quick answer! 'Tis a bit eerie that my character's name is indeed Jason, but I'm sure that's just an odd coincidence.

That's hilarious and yes, just a coincidence. I was looking at the book T.S. Eliot in Context and picked Jason because Jason Harding was the author's name.
