I can almost see it
That dream I am dreaming
But there's a voice inside my head saying
"You'll never reach it"

Now you may be wondering why I'm quoting part of Miley Cyrus' Song, "The Climb". Well for the story that will take place, it's the foundation for the inspiration. And so, the story shall begin.

========================================================

For a moment, there was just emptiness in his heart as he stares back towards town. For the last 15 years, he spent wondering that town from inch to inch, just waiting for this moment. 15 years he spent talking pokemon with his siblings, his parents and his friends. 15 years he will never forget. As he stands on the slope leaving town, he felt a tear welling in his eye as the sun was raising behind him.

He felt a tug on his left pant leg. He hastily wiped away the tear as he picked up his Larvitar and hugged him.

"Well pal.. Looks like it's just you and me for now. What say you we start this off right?"

Larvitar nodded his head as Marvin started a small fire on the side of the road. Marvin was remembering how the day started, when he first got his pokemon. Random numbers was the game, in which he picked really good 3 numbers. He finally choose a Larvitar.

As they just sat there, watching the sunrise, Marvin made a silent pact with himself. He will do whatever it took to keep his dream alive.

The light from Marvin's campfire was seen by a pair of eyes who wandered over to it. The eyes watched Marvin talk to his Pokemon and sensed that Marvin wasn't feeling all that well. Why? The eyes didn't know. But the eyes sensed that they could probably defeat Marvin in a battle while he was in this state.

The eyes stepped out of the brush. "Hey you, don't you know that a fire in this foliage could be dangerous?" the owner of the eyes said.

"I see you have a Pokemon with you. Well, I have a Pokemon too. My name is William and I challenge you to a match!" said the youngster. "How does two on two sound?" he asked, holding up a Pokeball.

Marvin snapped his ahead around at the sound of a voice. There standing in front of him was a trainer. A real life trainer. And he was asking, him, Marvin to battle. Imagine that. This will be his first battle and man was he pumped for it.

Actually there were many feelings going through his head right now. First was angry for the trainer to be eavesdropping on his time, then excitment that he will be battling in his first match, then scared because he doesn't want to lose this one. Yes he has had experience battling, but that was with his siblings, at home under his parent's eyes. Now this was in the wild, with no one telling him what to do.

He finally clutched his fists together as he glared angrily at the trainer.

It's rude to spy on people. Someone's gotta teach you some manners. He paused as he listened to the other trainer's request. "I've only got Lavvy here. What about a 1 on 1 insteadd?" he said hopefully

"Kinda hard not to spy. I can see the light from your fire a league away," the youngster said grumpily. He didn't take kindly to being called rude.

"Huh, all you have is one Pokemon?" he asked. "Figures. You must have just gotten that Pokemon too. I've already got three Pokemon," he said, bragging. "Fine, 1 on 1 it is. For my Pokemon, I choose you!" he called, throwing the Pokeball he'd been holding.

A pretty tough looking Pokemon came out of the ball.

The youngster smirked, confident that he would win.

Marvin glared at the youngster. So he wants to brag about having 3 pokemon? I can trash talk too. Oh boy.. This situation can turn ugly as Marvin teeters to the trainer.

"I'm undefeated here in my hometown. How many matches have you won"? he said in an almost bragging voice.

Well what he said was almost true. He hasn't lost a match before, yet he never won one too. It's technically not lying... Or is it?

Marvin watches as a Rattata is brought out. He quickly takes out his Pokedex and scans the pokemon in front of him:

Cautious in the extreme, its hardy vitality lets it live in any kind of environment.

Marvin nods as he looks down at Lavvy.

Alright Lavvy. It's your time to shine. Hit it with a Sandstorm"

Oh and Yes. I am a new trainer and proud of it. I'll take you to the cleaners

Lavvy nodded and jumped into the midst of the battle, using a Sandstorm attack. It was a good attack to start off with, as it would also do additional damage to the Rattata for the next five turns. The Sandstorm also limited the Rattata's sight, but being a ground Pokemon, Lavvy had absolutely no problems with the Sandstorm.

"Good move, but we're better! Use Quick Attack Rattata!" called the other trainer. The Rattata, although it couldn't see very well, had picked up Lavvy's scent and followed it to the direction of Lavvy. Once it was close enough to see the little ground Pokemon, it performed a Quick Attack, doing a decent amount of damage on Lavvy. The little Rattata had a great attack and amazing speed, but Lavvy had more defense.

Marvin watched as Lavvy and the Rattata were locked in combat. He was quite impressed with the little rat, the way he was hanging in there. Time to crank this match up a notch.

"I'm impressed with Rattata. He's a tough little Rat. But still no match for Lavvy," he stated, thinking for moment. "Lavvy, come at Rattata with another Sandstorm, then hit it with a tackle."

Lavvy nodded, whipping up another Sandstorm to refresh the old one. Through the mist of the blowing sand, it Tackled the little Rattata. Lavvy's rock hard body made the Tackle hurt a little more than it normally would have.

"Your Larvitar isn't bad," said the trainer. "Actually, it's pretty cool," he admitted. "Rattata, give it another Quick Attack!" said the youngster. Rattata nodded and proceeded to sniff Lavvy out of the dust again, then used a Quick Attack in Lavvy's general area, but it missed.

"Same with your Rattata. You can tell it's been trained good"

Replied Marvin enthusiastically as he thought of his next attack. You can tell he was really into this match. He can go with the same combo, but that will be predictable. He needed to change it up.

"Lavvy hit it with a leer, jump and spin in the air with a Sandstorm"

Lavvy and the Rattata faced each other, both pumped up and excited through their trainers' excitement. Lavvy nodded at its trainers orders and leered at the Rattata. Rattata seemed to shrink back a bit from the attack, its defense lowering. Lavvy then jumped into the air and used a Sandstorm towards the ground to push itself upward and spin.

The youngster gasped at Lavvy. He had no idea what the other trainer was planning. "Rattata! Watch out!" he called. Meanwhile, Rattata had been taking damage from these sandstorms and was getting weak.

Marvin grinned. He was having a ball with this battle. Both Lavvy and Rattata are putting up quite the battle.

"You're doing great Lavvy. Keep up the attack. Time to hit him with a tackle."

Lavvy nodded and dove out of its jump, still spinning, to tackle into the Rattata. The combination of the spinning, which made Lavvy like a drill, and the gravitational force of the attack made the attack all that much stronger. When Lavvy looked up, Rattata had fainted.

Rattata Fainted! Lavvy wins the match!

Lavvy gained 2 exp points. He will need 2 exp points to level up.

The trainer recalled Rattata to its Pokeball and walked over to Marvin, holding out his hand. "I'm sorry for what I said earlier. Obviously, you are no rookie," he said in respect. He then dug in his pockets and gave Marvin $347 as his prize money for winning.

Marvin grinned at the other trainer. He had fun with battling him. He took the money with a nod

"No worries mate. I had a blast with that battle. Maybe we can battle again sometime," he said, picking up Lavvy.

He continued on his way towards Route 2, excited he managed to get his first official victory in what he hopes would be a long journey.

A stranger came up to Marvin as he walked along the beginner's route with something in hand. "Excuse me, Sir," the lady said politely. "I work at a PokeMart and I'm giving out free samples, if you'd like one. I just hope that you will visit us in Cinnamon Town," she added, handing him something.
