Like a placid layer of ice covering a lake filled with lively creatures, Agasaya kept her pale face blank, hiding the thoughts swirling around in her head.
Why did her superiors call for her? Did she do something wrong?
What did she do?
"Do you recall your execution of the Spearow boy, Agasaya?"
Ah, yes. A wave of sweet memory rushed over her- hurriedly being ordered to catch and kill the escaping morph; the flying boy rapidly growing from a distant speck in the sky to a life-size being as she rocketed toward him; the glance of utter panic he threw her when he realized she was after him, knowing his exhausted wings were no match for her effortlessly speedy levitation and swift Ice Beam; her own joy as her Ice Beam struck its mark even though the morph had transformed into a quicker, full Spearow; and the thrill and satisfaction of watching her helplessly frozen victim plummet down, down to his death.
She smiled to show that she remembered.
"Did you feel any remorse?"
She shook her head vigorously. To feel remorse was unacceptable. Completely intolerable.
"Good. You must repeat your performance. Again and again, because there more failed experiments who decide that they can cheat their rightful death. Hunt after them and dispose of them before they can do any real damage. To fail this is to meet the same fate as your targets. Do you understand, Agasaya?"
She nodded, this time with even more vigor. Agasaya ingrained into her brain that failing meant death. Horrible death. She could not, should not, fail.
"Then go. Begin your mission."
