It is the year 21XX. In the century since Lan Hikari defeated the Cyber Beasts and stopped WWW for the last time, Net crime has been virtually nonexistant, until fifteen years ago, when the mysterious orginzation, Shadow, attacked computer systems around the world and destroyed the Net's protector, Colonel. This attack ended with every human somwhow transported onto the Net. Not knowing how this happened, and thus not knowing how to reverse it, everyone was forced to quickly become used to living on the Net. However, this condition makes Shadow's plans even more dangerous, and with the Legendary NetNavi Megaman gone, the fate of the world lies in the mystery of The Key to The Internet.
