Date: May 16, 2012 City: Los Angeles State: California Synopsis: Hank meets an interesting friend with a similar taste in books.
Black coffee laced with an extra kick. That was the only way for him to deal with the dog that bit him. For Hank it was the morning ritual. That and ironically a donut. He was ex cop so he could indulge in that vice as the television so called it. It was another thing that he did every morning. Along with reading a book. Today it was Salvation. While it didn't have his fantastic bar tender in it, Hank was willing to read it. Mainly because it was one of the few that he hadn't read.
He had only three tattered copy and this one he had bought off of Ebay for about 1.25. Well some people didn't know a true meaning of escapism. It was hard though to keep in touch with the stories. Mainly because he only had books seventeen, six, twelve, and now sixteen. Well this was one point where he could at least enjoy what he had and if he ever decided to take another case then he'd be more willing to get more. Even if they sold for twenty bucks a pop.
Rolling his head, Hank remained sitting where he was. Dark sunglasses keeping the sun away from him, he was silent before looking up when the waitress offered more coffee. Her voice pounded in his head but he accept it. He'd add the whiskey himself. After all only he knew how much to put in and make it just right. Everyone that knew him would be angered with his sudden fall off the wagon, but Hank didn't care. They had all dumped him and he was more willing to do it himself.
Adjusting the book so it was no longer laying on the table. Hank turned the page and enjoyed the silence around him. Some times it would help. If not well there was always a dark bedroom in his apartment that he could go too and sleep it off.
Turning the page, Hank remained engross in the book wondering just what would happen. Would the two boys save the family? It was a strong cord with him too, what could Hank do but care about saving family. Particularly their own and the family in the book. Sipping his coffee, Hank cleared his throat and focused on the printed text (a hard challenge to do when sober at times, more so when drunk) and ignored all those around him.
