Religion. A word with a dark history, despite it's original benevolent intentions. And a word that caused the world of Noratia to begin it's history anew.
It's a world not unlike Earth. It is inhabited by many creatures you would see on Earth, and only a few that you would not (many of those being successful genetic expirements). Unlike the people of Earth, those of Noratia do not worship the all-mighty beings that may or may not have created their planet. Instead, they worship the 6 elements that make up their planet; Fire, water, ice, lighting, earth and wind. Each of the 6 major nations worship a seperate element, each also believing that their element rules the rest. Of course, there are several obscure religions in Noratia as well, many of them believing as the other nations, but without any hard proof that it actually exists. (examples are Nature, Space, Poison, Psychic, Light and Dark) History moved on Noratia much like it did on Earth; there were several conflicts throughout, a few evil men bent on ruling the world, and many moments of peace and prosperity around the world. But one day, in the World Council (where the leaders of every nation got together to discuss the future of their world), a major argument broke out between the leaders of Firlan and the Aquatan Republic about the elements. Naturally, both nations yelled that their element was the most powerful, and thus ruled the rest. Niether wopuld give any ground or walk away. After the convention (which ended with nothing done because of the argument), many things happened. There were assassination attempts on both leaders, arguments between other nations, and even a few armed scurmishes. All of these things led to a world war with no teams. It turned into a moshpit of giants. Firlan was taking heavy losses during this war, and they needed something to halt the advances of the rapidly-approaching Aquatan Forces. A brilliant scientist, named Joseph Stamen, developed a weapon called the cannon, which is very different from the cannon from earth. This cannon fired a hollow steel ball with trace ammounts of uranium inside it that caused a chain reaction and a small, but deadly, explosion. Firlans leader (whose name had been lost in history) immediately ordered the mass production of cannons and the projectiles that went with them. |
