Hi

My name is Jen. Back in 1982 I was diagnosed with clinical depression and was prescribed imipramine.

That is when the hypnagogic sleep paralysis started, just a few weeks after starting this anti-depressant. At the time, well actually every doctor even since then has no explaination for this. I stopped imipramine around '89 when prozac came out but the sleep paralysis only slowly went away , now only happens when extremely stressed.

I never , not once ever had this experience until after I began taking imipramine. The lucid dreams and waking dreams that usually went with the sp were incredible but they dissipated long before the sp did.

This is the first time that I'm hearing that this medicine is used for treating sleep paralysis.

Anyone with similar experiences?

Thank you

Jen

Simply put...no, that is actually the opposite of what Imipramine or any related tricyclic antideppressant should do as they are REM suppressants. I took imipramine in the past to treat sleep paralysis (effectively) and then later switched to clomipramine (another TCA).

Are you dx'd with narcolepsy as well, or just SP?
