I have recent diagnosis of narcolepsy. I thought it was under control with Provigil twice daily. I went to dinner with an old ex. I was clear that I was not interested in a romantic relationship. I had hypersomnolence hit me during dessert. I was afraid I was not going to be able to walk out on my own (had 1/2-1 glass of wine with meal). He quickly escorted me to car then to a hotel, because we had a 40 min drive home. I was too sleepy to argue yet I was clear I just needed to lie down and sleep a bit, but I was not going to have sex. I laid down. I was awakened while he was penetrating me. It was horrible. I trusted him, which obviously was a big mistake, and going to dinner was a big mistake. I am beating myself up tremendously over this already, and my friends and family have lectured me. I allowed myself to get into a vulnerable position by simply going out to dinner. Now I am petrified. I had taken my Provigil and I have had wine before. Have you ever been taken advantage of during a sleep state? I feel so extraordinarily vulnerable now with the narcolepsy. My guard was totally down because all I could do is fall asleep. Please don't lecture me more I have beaten myself a million times and I am going to a therapist. I just want to know if anyone has been in a sleep situation and ended up with challenging circumstances and how they moved past it. I keep thinking had I not had the narcolepsy I would have been able to be alerted as soon as he touched me in a sensitive area. I have no idea how he was able to get me in that position. I am so distraught and now afraid. Why did I not wake up more to fight him? I dosed off while he was doing it too me...and was awakened again with him during more things again. I take 10 mg at night, but had my last dose 24 hours prior. I am new to this level of hypersomnolence. I have always had lots of sleepiness, but not to the point of fearing I would collapse while walking out. I have cataplexy which is infrequent and only occurs with extended laughter. Does narcolepsy transition to the point of you feeling you will fall asleep standing up or walking?
I would appreciate any coping suggestions and examples of what variations of narcolepsy there are. I understand the hypersomnolence, I just don't understand the abrupt onset which I had and the rapidity with which it impacted my ablity to snap to. My Provigil usually takes about 30 minutes to kick in. Is this your experience. Should I have taken some ritalin as soon as the sleepiness came over me? (Does it have faster onset and shorter half life than Provigil?)I did not want to take extra Provigil with dinner and then not be able to go to sleep. Provigil causes me significant heart burn so I am conservative with it, yet this is better than the Ritalin headache and blood pressure increase. I deeply deeply appreciate any personal feedback.

absolutely horrifying, and as a member of the opposite sex I am ashamed of such behavior.
If this happend recently you should seek out hospital for a rape kit as well as file charges if you have not done so already, there is a specail place for jerks like that in prison. I know he is your ex and you may have some feelings for him even though they are not romantic so you may feel reserved in doing this but to be honest its for the best, he did this to you, he most likely will do this to others.

i hope that did not sound lecturish..

as for your drinking a glass of wine. does this normally affect you like this. if not I would suspect he may have done something else to your wine, this would aslo show up in the rape kit fyi. usually 24 hours is the key time frame before any other drugs are metabolized.
oh and consider alcohal content for the wine you were drinking, they tend to differ.

ritalin is usually completly metabolized within 4 hours unless you are on the time release stuff.
provigil acording to my doc lasts aprox 6 hours.
both are not very effective in my case. but everyones different.

I wish the best for you.

first of all can i say that there is no one here (i hope) that will lecture you about this as we all know what it is like to not be in control of your own body but the last poster is right- you should ultimately look towards filing charges- there is no shame in doing so and i can´t tell you how sorry i am that you had to go through that assault

to be honest i have had close calls my self but it is never your fault so you should not beat yourself up about it so

i wish icould say more to you but i am currently in charge of this site from some back water town in Spain and the conputer is shocking.

i wish i could give you more words of advice but all i can do i say that if you need to talk to someone and you dont think you can do so to some one closer to you then just talk to me or someone else here - it might help - even if you ultimately decide not to go to the police
