wacko.gif I reacently had a sleep study done which focused more on the neurological aspects of my sleep disturbances. I was told that Narcolepsy was NOT indicated and I said, "Oh yeah? what about...."

Maybe you folks could give me some ideas about what my sleep disorder is or isn't.

1. sleep paralysis - I also have sleep apnea and I have to put on my mask before I lay down or else I'm left holding the mask without putting it on.

2. sleep attacks - 2-3 times a day. It feels like someone just injected me through an IV with powerful sleep potions! If I don't get to bed soon enough, i start staggering around like I'm drunk. My eyes shut and I have to feel my way to the bed. I "freeze" and someone has to keep poking me so I don't sleep right where I am. I can't call out for help so sometimes I'm "frozen" and helpless.

3. I fall asleep almost instantly, although I may be awake inside, but in the morning it takes around 5-10 minutes of floating back and forth between waking and dreaming before i am able to get out of bed.

4. If I am somewhere when I start dosing, like during a sermon, I pass between wake and dreaming constantly unless I can stand up and start moving around.

Well... there you have it. What do you think? huh.gif

Did the test have an MSLT? To me, that sounds like pretty classic N, and a N dx can be made sometimes in lieu of a PSG, if there are sufficient other symptoms. Also, N will not always show up on a PSG. Are you medicated? Were you taking medications when you took the test? If not, how long before the test did you stop taking your meds? What are all the meds you are taking? (You can either send me a PM or decline to state your meds if you don't want them listed here)

I dunno, how long have you been seeing this doctor?

i'm sorry but i agree with Toph4er - that sounds like classic Narcolepsy

i had a doctor that once told me that no test is 100% accurate and can not be used to negate a diagnosis of narcolepsy

Ok let me say this...I pray that you do not have narcolepsy, I really do...but if you do have it it is more than important that it is recognized and treated. And sam is right, no test is perfect.
