Well I had to write a poem for class, so after several hours I have:

Wishful Dreaming

A sentence, a snore
The cadence, a bore
When sleeping does wake
Can meaning retake
The absence of thought
For that sense he sought?
In good chance he might
This nuisance will fight
And let go fin’ly
Of narcolepsy
But just then a fright
Another bad night

Now, maybe you can find significance in it...I spent most of my time looking for rhyming words that fit the pattern lol.

Chris"Toph4er"

Changed be rid to let go, my teacher suggested I leave the pattern broken in the last couplet since the focus changes from the dream where he has no narcolepsy to suddenly waking and realizing that it was just that, only a dream, and the break draws attention to that.

Were you required to rhyme? Almost everybody is against rhyme nowadays. I thought I was the only one left on this planet who likes rhyming poetry. If you need help rhyming go to rhymezone.com.

No, but it's my choice to rhyme because rhyming and pattern help it flow. Most poetry nowadays just looks like a paragraph broken up every few words tongue.gif

I know what you mean. Most poetry nowadays looks and sounds like a bunch of meaningless random words somebody pulled out of a hat!

I'm happy to say that my poem will likely be published in an upcoming Narcolepsy Network newsletter, if only I was a subscriber...I've never had time to go through the process!

Keep an eye out for it,

Woot, it is set to be published! laugh.gif

Both Creative Communication and the International Library of Poetry (Poetry.com) have sent me letters in the last few days asking me to publish it with them biggrin.gif. (Yes, I submitted it, it's not a completely random occurrence rolleyes.gif). I suppose it was worth the hours of pain to write it then tongue.gif.

I'm not familiar with Creative Communication, but Poetry. com is a scam, so beware.

go to:

http://www.winningwriters.com/contests/avoid/av_avoid.php

or

http://windpub.com/literary.scams/abc-nlp.htm

If it hadn't been for a friend of mine seeing an expose' on Oprah, they would have had me fooled. Thank goodness she blew the whistle on them before I was out any money! I didn't even know there was any such thing as a poetry contest until they placed an ad in our small town newspaper. So, with some urging from my family, I sent them an entry. The rest is history!

I'd like to see you submit your poem to some reputable contests. You might even wind up with your own book! wink.gif
