I don't post my work online, but I'm making an exception. My favorite doctor (my OB/GYN) retired, and I'm going to miss him so much. I wrote this poem for him to give to his wife. I hope they don't mind if I post it.
When Duty Calls
It takes a special woman To be a doctor's wife I couldn't be the man I am Without you in my life You deserve all my attention But you generously share When you need me to be with you I can't always be there When duty calls I must respond To my responsibilities You're supportive and understanding As you patiently wait for me When I'm called away And must cancel special plans I'll try to make it up to you When I'm home with you again Try to see it this way Though it's a lot to ask It's not that I've put others first It's that I've saved the best for last
Dedicated to Dr. and Mrs. C.J. Sanders By Vickie Eaton (c 2005)
