Well I'm just looking for suggestions...I have severe nighttime paralysis so its very difficult. Normally my parent or brother wakes me up, then after 15 minutes or so I'm finally able to get up out of bed. A few times I have apparently said something as my mom woke me up and when she asked what I meant I replied, "You should know what the 'heck' I'm talking about." O well, now its your turn to tell smile.gif

You have two things you can check, one for wake up, the other for get up (under each heading). If its more than one choice under each, just select the most often selection, and you can explain the other methods if you wish in a post. The more input the better.

Thanks

Chris"Toph4er"

((Hope this makes sense))

I am a very patterned person. I make myself get up at the same time every morning no matter what. I always wake up at 6:30. Since I have done this for years, I usually wake up naturally but I set the alarm just in case. The problem is some days I don't want to get out of bed. I make myself do it anyway. If I take a nap in an hour that's fine but I don't take the nap in my bed. I am afraid if I don't stick to the schedule it would be to easy not to get up. Granted, there are many days that are harder than others, especially now that is is darker longer. I also have the "luxury" of the nighttime paralysis happenening at the onset of sleep, I have never had it when trying to wake up in the morning.

I wake up consistantly too...once a day! Nah I average 10 o'clock, I have my alarms (2) set for 9:00 but I never hear them, although my mom (and the rest of the family on weekends) across the house often does . Yet I wake up easily with just someone talking, not sure why. And now I got interrupted and lost my train of thought, anywho I'm glad your schedule is working for you happy.gif

I really hate the mornings! I envy people that wake up refreshed. From what my doctor has told me the only thing that seems to help people is the GHB drug (date rape drug) and I just don't want to go that route. Is anyone taking it? Anyone have any suggestions for that "refreshed in the morning" feeling? I have been trying a variety of meds. The progvigil seemed to help me feel more awake but I had some very bad side effects on it- extreme anxiety to the point of feeling concerned for my safety. I then tried just Dextroamphetamine and that just wasn't cutting it so now I am on Adderol. too soon to judge. Is anyone taking Adderol?
Whats working for you?
Thanks for your input!
Carolyn

Hi,CarolynP. I think most doctors who treat N like to start us on provigil first. It helped me stay awake at first, but I quickly reached tolerance. It also made me break out in a rash and act like a raving maniac. I was so desperate to be awake I took it anyway. But EVERYBODY was so glad when he took me off of it. Next he put me on ritalin. On that I couldn't wake up at all-EVER! So he took me off of that pretty quick. Now he's got me on adderall. It works better on me than anything else so far. The tolerance is inevitably creeping up on me again, though. All these drugs affected my son the same way as me[so far]. My daughter,on the other hand,is still on ritalin. It helps her. And my grandaughter is still on provigil. Probably because she had to take a break from drugs altogether when she was pregnant and nursing. And my poor nephew-well nothing helps him. The moral of the story is: What helps one might not help the other. So you never know until you try what effect it will have or how long it will last. blink.gif

They (doctors, researchers, etc.) always say that no two cases of narcolepsy are the same. So that makes us each an oddball amongst oddballs happy.gif.

One sure fire way to wake up, is a four year old jumping on your back, screaming "COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO- MOM!!!" Hee hee. I'll be happy to lend her out for those who need some extra help waking up. tongue.gif

somehow I get up, my alarm clock goes off and if it doesnt just absorb into my dream for half an hour I get up to tap the snooze, or even the off button if i'm not fully consious. in some cases i hit the off button in my sleep totally and wake up late for work.often i hit the snooze button a few times until somehow I convince myself I have to get up.

if my 2 month old screams for half an hour it wakes me up lol.

actually one other strange event that will occur every now and then is if I oversleep, the whole family does as well. we all go to bed at different times but if my alarm clock fails to wake me and our lil boy doesnt wake my wife everyone stays asleep until i wake up in a panic realizing i overslept.

I dread the morning... I am so painfully tierd...

My husband sends in my two very happy to see mommy large black labs who land right on top of me. Unfort, this sometimes has bad side effects if I am having a violent or viid dream...I wake up thinking I am under attack dry.gif

I wish I could figure out how to counteract the silly insomnia boughts I get....I am going on Xyrem in 2 weeks... I'll let y'all know how that works
