Title: sleep study and diagnosis
Description: what happens after sleep study?

I am scheduled for sleep study June 15. Have to be off meds for two weeks to get proper readings. Am scared cause without meds have n and c attacks. Am trying to take care of 90 year olf Mom, our home and finish school. Neuro on my case cause med is amphetamine and strictly controlled. Have no insurance. Heard about Provigil etc. Don't know if drs less nervous about prescribing ProV etc.approxamate price here in New York State about 600 to 700 bucks for 30 pills. If I could afford these drugs, can anyone tell me if they work as well as dexedrine etc which is a lot cheaper? And after study, how long does it take for docs to figure out results? Can't function for long without medicine. Could become housebound! Any info out there?

provigil is very expensive without insurance, my doc wanted me to try them first but if I cant get my N under control he would rather switch to a long acting Ridlin. provigil for me is 50 bucks for 60 tabs after my insurance. only other option I can think of is if you have a Rx for it, try searching some of the overseas distributors, it is legal with a Rx to do so.

Ok, no one can really say unfortunately which med is "best" because all of us respond a little differently to each. I know there's people here who love their dexedrine, other people hate it. Same goes for provigil, ritalin, xyrem, and anything else. As for the sleep study, barring something unusual, you should be able to go back on your meds as soon as the study is finished, you don't have to wait for the results (Unless your doctor says otherwise). It can take as long as a month to get back results, depending on the clinic, just make sure there is a Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) along with the overnight test (that is, if the test is for narcolepsy, which I'm assuming it is).

Hope that helps,
