Anyone want to do this? Just list a bunch of titles you may or may not use and let someone else "adopt" it.

Personally for me, I have none. Which is why I started this thread! hehe

I have enough trouble coming up with titles for things that I have written that I don't have any extras floating around, either, but I'd be interested to see if anyone has any happy.gif

Lol I have one I'm not willing to give up as I plan on rewriting. It was one of those "OMG!" epiphany moments that I came up with one day.

Well, that's good. They usually come to me eventually, but they rarely float around in advance.

I've got one:
Power Outs, Pencil Shavings, and a Hundred Other Reasons Humanity Ended

(Though, I do believe it came from an Adopt-A-Title thread at Screnzy, which had been reposted from a screnzier's list of favorite NaNo Adopt-A-Titles.)

I do have titles, but they all also have stories attached. I don't tend to get titles until mid-way through the book (or some time after finishing... Winged Fire was Nutmeg Angel 2 for quite a while...) biggrin.gif So, sorry, I don't have any spares. And the titles I pick all seem to have been used for something already... sad.gif

I have a terrible time with choosing the title for a novel, but the titles of individual chapters come easily.

An author usually wants a title that, at least, gives a hint to what the book is about.

May that's why the highly successful American author of western adventure novels, Louis L'Amour (1908-1988) gave many of his books strange-sounding titles, such as Hondo, Sackett, Talon, Chantry, Fallon, Bendigo Shafter. All of them werer named after the novel's main character.

He also had his share of great-sounding titles: Under the Sweetwater Rim, Where the Long Grass Grows, The Fergusson Rifle, The Man from Broken Hills, Over on the Dry Side, To the Far Blue Mountains, The Warrior's Path, The Walking Drum, The Haunted Mesa, and The Last of the Breed. All of those fit the story in some way.

Choosing a title comes very easily for some people, and is one of the hardest, and often the last thing, for some authors to do.

For me, most of my recent titles have been the result of an epiphany; no other word can describe it better. My first book was Swordman from Earth, which fit the science fiction story, and I followed it with Swordman of Manta. The next four all ended with the name of the fictional planet of Manta, which tells the reader that they are part of a series.

There probably are many of us who would like some help with titles. I'm just not one who is able to provide any.

I've chosen "Heart of the Bells" for a novel about bells....I know, how creative.

Before you finish your novel, you may end up tweaking it a bit, or go with an entirely different title, amybe something more precisely to relate to a carillon.

I think it's a nice title, though. smile.gif

I like it, too. And like Dave says, it's not as though it's set in stone in case you realize it doesn't fit or isn't quite right happy.gif

Lol, looks like I found another thread about titles. Hehe, well, we need all we can get. I can see that almost nobody has titles that are just floating around in their heads for people to adopt, lol. How about we try another approach? What are some compelling words you know of that if you saw them in the title of a book, you'd be likely to pick up the book or at least take a closer look. Granted, this involves personal preferences, but knowing these words might be extremely helpful to those trying to assemble compelling titles. To start with, here are some of the words I find compelling:

Amnesia
Ghost
Cat
Star
Magic
Alchemy
Time
Singer/Song
River/Brook/Ocean/Sea/Water(s)
Mermaid
Atlantis ((Any mythological term, really))
Emerald

Hmmm...that's all I can think up at the moment...anybody got any more words? Feel free to share them. It could really help to find compelling words to create compelling titles. tongue.gif Hope this works, anyway, hehe.

Take care, and have a nice day!

Melissa

Okay, me and a friend were talking, and we came up with a few good titles that neither of us have any need for, so I figured I'd post them here just in case anyone could use them, since nobody around here seems to be able to come up with any extras. *snickers* Here they are:

Born to Endless Night
Yesterday, the Tomorrow of Today
Maggots in My Heart

If any of these work for you, feel free to use them! wink.gif
