There was a huge rock slide on I-40 in NC just over the NC/TN state line this weekend. The road is closed, and they predict it could be 2-3 months before it's cleaned up. Use alternate route if heading over thru there for the rest of the year. Like a NC show.
I guess one unlucky driver found it before anyone else. She's ok, they say. Good thing I use I-26 to get over there anyways. |

We saw that on the news and are praying it is repaired before next March.
They said on the news it will take "AT LEAST" 3 months to repair. And we all know what that means in HWY Repair Language! LOL!!!! Otherwise we will be looking at a 2 hour detour to get to Louisville, KY for our Brussels Griffon National Specialty. Still, glad that no one was hurt, detours are much better than funerals. Alan |

Theres been 2 more rock slides, this time on the TN/GA border on Highway 64.
They say it will be closed for a month. about 10 tons of rock cover the road. the first slide was at 6am and then around lunch time the second one hit and the road crew was just barely out of way when it came down. they got it on video too, its pretty neat. Apparently there was a tiny earthquake a few weeks ago in the mountains and thats what is causing all of this, they're saying more could happen over the next week because all the rain is forcing down the rocks that the earthquake shook loose. |

Boyo. The NC/TN stateline will soon be completely closed at this rate. I'm a bit leery to head over via 26. :nervous
There's another glitch. They have to close a bridge on 81 for repairs. Just happens to be my exit from that direction. I don't need to go that way for awhile but it will cause problems for the rock slide detours. Detours on detours. Here's an interesting site I found after I felt a TN earthquake a couple years ago. It includes the recent mountain quakes. List of Recent Earthquakes |

Wow, TN gets alot of little earthquakes! I guess i never really thought about all the trembles that could occur up that way with it being on a fault line. good thing our tectonic plates dont shift the way the west coast does, the blue ridge would be crumbled in by now! :o
