I've noticed some people have used shaded VM brood does. Did any of your have the problem of a ruby cast over the eyes of BEWs born from a shaded VM? My mother wants to get into BEWs and All I have are shaded to make VM for her.

They say it can cause purple eyes. Same for using choc. I did it with a smoke pearl and so far have not seen purple eyes.
Since type is the goal when creating VMs, I say go for it with the best you have. If it goes wonky, don't do that again. |

Shaded can cause problem, related to the eye color, it does Sometimes produce a ruby cast to the eye like the shaded have, which is a DQ. It may not always turn up in the first breeding but may in generation down the line, it can carry for many generation. It is best to stay away from the shaded when making VMs, for BEWs, but Dennie is right if it what u have go for it. :wtg Keep what fits and Cull what does not.

I would not use shaded with BEWs if you are going to show. You will regret it when the eye color is not correct. We had this problem with our Holland Lop buck. We did not know about this when we got him, but noticed the cast to the eyes later. We did not know what caused it until he threw a sable point.
If your breeding does not throw the shaded gene, you might be okay, but that is a 50% chance. If you have a way to cull these, then it might be worth the chance. Just my experience. |
