Hello there. No, I am not a DR admin, and no, nobody gave me permission to start this wacky scheme. I am just a simple DR fan who cares enough to get DR up and running, but at the moment circumstances are less than favourable.

Those reading this probably know what I'm on about. That includes Byo, Sirdanilot and Dark Lugia, plus anyone else who happened to be listening to the server chat on the 30th december 2006 between 4 and 7 PM GMT+1. Today I started running the Dragon Realm server (sadly, only for today and tomorrow- I happened to have a lot of timer left over from this month's subscription).

Here are my ideas:

1) An upgrade to ADSL and ergo unlilmited internet access, permitting a 24/7 server

2) An upgrade to unlimited dialup (my current subscription is 60 hours a month, putting running a server through the month out of the question)

3) Finding a suitable and willing host to do the deed for me

The first option all depends on when I get a new PC. It will be at least a few months, but it hopefully won't be much longer than that.

As I'm contributing 5 euros to my monthly subscription of 60 hours, an unlimited one would set me back another ten per month, unless one of my family chipped in too, making it seem unviable. HOWEVER, I AM CONSIDERING SETTING UP AN ONLINE BUSINESS SELLING SECONDHAND COMPUTER SOFTWARE. That might sound stupid, but when you consider my vast collection of stuff (125 genesis games, over 100 NES games, around 175 saturn games, 43 n64 games, 25 snes games, 1000's of Amiga disks and tons of boxed software in very good condition, 100's of C64 cassettes, and multiples of every console I own) I think you get my drift. This is in essence the point of the message. I am starting out sometime in the future selling highly collectable amiga coverdisks from the popular monthly CU Amiga among others, og which I own hundreds. If this proves successful, AN UNLIMITED SUBSCRIPTION WOULD BECOME ESSENTIAL. If it doesn't, then onto step 3. I have high hopes for this project however, as boxed amiga games go for a lot more than you woud imagine and attract a very hgih rate of interest.

The third option to me seems the least viable. I don't know how much anyone actually cares about the DR revival, but I know that if I fire the whole thing off I can gain a lot of support, respect and credit from you guys. I'm not asking for money donations, just your moral support all the way.

Finally, scripting skills would be appreciated. I have the time to learn how to script but it's so boring I'd rather not. And all administrator positions have been filled (Me, Myself and I, I mean Byo and Sirdanilot) so don't go asking for those. Moderator positions will be filled in due course, but unless you are exceptionally brainy, know me or get to know me in time Byo will act as a third umpire, whether I like it or not :/

Hope you consider this broadcast as informative and I'm a whip yo asses when I finally get DR up and running.

And in case I do, I expect everyone out there to SPREAD THE WORD!

AS regards tournaments, there may or may not be awesome prizes, it just depends on whether or not we have sufficient popularity to warrant doing it.

Thanks, the script would be helpful.
I compiled a list of stuff I want to sell, now I'm trying to find the ebst way of selling them (possibly in small groups). I also have dozens of magazines to sell, it'll easily fund the server.

I am also trying to get my server to host. As everyone knows, this place will never be alive again, so I also propose a new forum. DF, if you could send me the scripts, I'd be glad to try it out, seeing as I found out my Firewall. (PM please.)

03-01-07 update

OK guys, the server hasn’t exactly been up 11-11 as I said it would, because of a mistake on my part. I accidentally chose a 90-hours-a-month deal with Orange, setting me back 20 euros a month, wrongly thinking that I could go back to unlimited @ 25 / month. Sorry guys L The server will, however, resume normal activity at the beginning of next month, so stay tuned for details.
