What is this FAQ for? It’s for you, mostly. Enjoy!
What is Myridia?Well that depends, do you mean the website or the locale?
Um … the locale?Myridia is a city on a high plateau. It is a small place wedged between two empires looking to envelop it. See more about the history
here and see the map
here.
Okay. The website, then?Myridia is a free-form role-playing site. It’s an opportunity for creative individuals to express their passion for writing and story telling in a cohesive, cooperative environment, heightening and highlighting their styles, talents, and minds. Also, it’s fun.
That’s neat!Not really a question. Strike one.
How do I join?Take a look through the rules and the rest of the information posted (it's really not that long, don't worry). Register for an account., then create an application (here's the
template); you'll be off in no time.
What's the weather like? The area is seasonal with noticeably differing weather depending on the time of year. The winters are harsh, windy, and biting, while the summers are fair and mild.
What are factions? The people of Myridia are generally divided in terms of their history or their profession. These divisions are usually gentle and meant to provide some cohesiveness to representation in the government. Just because people are from different factions does not mean they are enemies. Well, not always at least. For more information go
here.
What are ranks for nobility? In the current times, there are no formal ranks amongst the nobility: most everyone goes simply by 'lord' or 'lady'. However, in olden times, back when Myridia was ruled by kings, there were the family (King, Queen, Princes, Princesses, etc). There were also ranks for extended family and other nobles; the ranks proceeded from highest to lowest as: Duke/Duchess > Marquess/Marchioness > Earl/Countess > Viscount/Viscountess > Baron/Baroness. Again, these are not considered proper in this day in age of Myridia, but
some more traditionalist Old Nobility families will use the titles amongst themselves.
Can a person belong to more than one faction? While typically unlikely, this is possible. Usually, nobles do not have professions (that's what all that wealth is for), nor would the two noble groups intermingle too far. However, the odd occurrence has been known to happen - especially between the nobles and mages (since mages are naturally born). Simply note this in the characters history. However, you must state which single faction usergroup you wish for the character to belong to (simply for roster purposes).
What do the people look like in Myridia?Myridians run the gamut as far as people run currently (but they are all within normal human boundaries).
What exactly is the difference between the Council and the Chorus? This point seems a bit confusing. Can one person belong to both? The Council is made up of the Five Councillors (NPCs), and this group makes all the decisions of Myridia. The Chorus is below the Council, debates on various issues that concern the people, and is made up of the canon characters. If you have a canon, he/she will be in the Chorus unless he/she is a military character. And no, no one can belong to both because no one can play a Council member. Hope this clears things up.
What season is it currently in Myridia?Right now, it is late spring. We'll figure out a way to announce the seasons better.
How do I play a canon?Take a look are our canon list
here and familiarize yourself with who appeals to you as a writer. Then simply make an application like normal using the same template.
Who else can I be?You can be really anyone you want in reference to the scenario. That’s the beauty!
Can I be Jessica Alba?!?Strike two, buster.
What is the technology level?Think late antiquity times. Steel and the like have been sourced and developed but are still very rare. Remember that Myridia is mostly a self-sustaining locale on a large plateau with only the rare trade out of its boundaries.
What is the currency in Myridia?Silver coins are the most commonly used currency. Most ‘medium’ purchases (weapons, horses, etc) are bought with silver. Copper and Gold coins can also be found. 1 Silver coin is worth 10 Copper coins, while 10 Silver coins is worth 1 Gold coin.
Who are the Ashar and Kalen? Ashar and Kalen are the two dominant empires of Farrah (the name of the landmass that they are on). They are both interested in Myridia in one form or another. See
here for more information.
Does it really matter if I take a side? While a majority of the plot revolves around the future of Myridia in terms of the Ashar and Kalen, you do not necessarily NEED to take a side. Your character can be neutral or undecided on the matter, and he or she can live his or her life in blissful ignorance. However, as stated, having a say in the matter may garner more role play experiences.
So does that mean that Ashar and Kalen supporters are Myridian traitors? No, absolutely not and I can't stress this enough. They consider themselves as patriotic as anyone else. They realize that they are a small country being fought over by two enormous opposing forces and that it is better to side with one than be crushed by both. They are thinking out for Myridia's future. 'Myridian Patriots' (as we've called them) abhor the idea of joining with either side and would rather fight.
How did the concept and plot of Myridia come about?Well, see, this is what happens when you get three guys of relative sobriety together. You get a fantasy-themed board.
Who exactly are these three guys, i.e. the Myridia Admin? That would be the Three Stooges, who are generally nice people and don't have sticks shoved up their rear ends. Uz, Andre and Nick. Actually, no. It's all Andre's idea. He kinda created the other two losers from his imagination.
Uz sounds awesome and amazing! Who is this Uz, and where does he live? Is he single?Strike three!
STRIKE THREE!
