We have officially opened Myridian Revolutions! A little earlier than planned. The site is now open to bios and to posting ICly. We'll be keeping Myridia open so we can continue to wrap up, so don't worry about it being archived prematurely.

SO. I have been pondering this, and though I think it might have been verbalized a few weeks ago, I thought I'd put it up here so that others could chime in.

Here is my proposal to the admins:

A subforum for Semi-New Myridia!

A "Semi-New Myridia" subforum would allow people to get a bit of closure on their Old-Myridia characters, while also brewing the starts of New-Myridia ones. Threads or stand-alone posts could take place anywhere from 5 to 20 years from now and cover any range of topics: revisiting old romances, deaths, the conception of a New-Myridia character, or even a happily-ever-after-let's-go-walking-into-the-sunset post if somebody is feeling reluctant to give their character the brutal ax of death.

Thoughts? Comments? Cookies?

I think it would be fun.

I'm especially invested in this idea, because I have just written the climatic ends for both of my characters, and I would love somewhere to share it. xD

Hey Niki,

I love the idea, and I assume this forum would exist on the new site, correct? i.e. it would be a place to fill in the gaps between now and the events going on in the future.

I'm all for it.

Once the new site is ready, I'll add the forum for everyone to have access to, and those who need closure, or wish to delve into their characters' pasts, they can do that there.

Sound good?

Thanks, Uz. <3

If it's on the new board, will we be able to write with old characters, since most of us will not be re-registering them?

For example, I've already written a stand-alone post for Enda, whom I will not be taking over to the new board. What would I do with it? Just post it with one of my new characters?

(LOL @ TODD)

Great point, Niki. We probably don't really want an excess of characters registered on the new forums that will just be posting for a one-shot 'conclusion' thread. That'll get into some unnecessary hassles.

A possible way around this is some type of open to all registered account. We could call the account something like "The Stories of Characters Past" and the pass would be something innocuous and unbaised like "iloveuz". And everyone could use this character in the new subforum to post their characters. You'd just type the character you are representing at the top of the first line of each post (especially if your conclusion thread requires more than one character/writer).

We'll think about it. But whatever way happens, there will definitely be a place for you to finish off your characters' stories.

I don't see that working very well with the current member count we have. There will be too many clashes and people might get randomly signed out or denied access.

People can always use flash-back threads for existing characters and I don't get this need to shut Myridia down so fast. A lot of RPing can still be done here in that respect.

What if it's a subforum on THIS board? We could start playing it out NOW, and then when it's time to move over to new Myridia, everybody will be wrapped up and ready? You could even make it a private forum, give out to the password to all the members, and that way the noobs won't get confused or overwhelmed by it.

If you're really worried about 'clashing' (I honestly hadn't thought it would be an issue), we could always just make that particular subforum open to guests. This way you wouldn't even have to log-in: you just post as your character's name and go for it. The reason I was suggesting an account was for the ability to edit posts and whatnots.

Niki, the thought of putting the forum here hadn't even crossed my mind. It's certainly the path of least resistance in terms of hassle. However, we don't want to make writers feel like they need to finish up their stories now before we make the transition, and we don't want to draw attention and focus away from the war (though we know it's hard NOT to think about this big move).

As a general concept about the move (and not as an argument for or against any suggestions about this particular thread topic), we really don't want two forums open and running at full speed at the same time. If a few people are doing some finishing touches on the old forum, that's fine. But we aren't looking for two active sites. We're edgy ... not masochistic tongue.gif

Again: there will be lots of discussion about this. Nothing's set in stone yet, and your inputs are always welcome.

Also, realistically speaking, we have about three months before we make the jump, so we have plenty of time for things to change, shift, and veer off track (character-wise). A lot can change in three months, and if we start binding characters to a certain destiny, we might run into trouble if our characters encounter something unexpected in this version of Myridia.

For that reason, we think its best if we keep all of our future plots on hold, focus on getting the war wrapped up, and once we edge closer to the shift, we'll figure a way to give everyone the opportunity to fill in the gaps.

I actually meant HERE here.

I can see loads of problems with either things. And I'm not in the nice and helpful mood right now so I'll get back to it later.

I don't understand....I think the best and simplest solution is this:

For characters not continuing on to Future Myridia, but whose players still want to wrap things up:

Once this version of Myridia has been killed by the war or whatever, and everyone is making the move to the new forum, simply make a new sub forum on this very site. Since everyone should already have the account for their character, permissions shouldn't be a problem. Let all members have the ability to post there. Maybe lable it like 'The Future' or something. Since the characters won't be moving forward, it doesn't really matter that new members on the new site see the threads anyways, so keeping them here, on this site, won't matter.

For characters continuing on to Future Myridia:

Well...they should have an account on the new site. So, making a new subforum on the new site for them to post in, where they can wrap up their past, or play with their past, shouldn't be a problem.

No need for one all powerful account. No need for a forum open to guests. Just one sub forum for each site...
