*dork squee!*
My sister, Bear, has *finally totally accepted* that I'm going pro again, one way or another.
I've been waiting for her to draw said conclusion, and abide by it, for almost a year now. When I started writing "Defiled" and expressed my intentions to sell it, she wouldn't discuss it. Period. End of statement. She'd actually go cower in the office, hoping I wouldn't follow her and talk about it.
This afternoon, she comes out of the office and proclaims, "WGA is going on strike. Everyone is filming back-to-back seasons, even SVU -- they're filming nine and ten concurrently. No one's getting hiatus...the industry is freaked."
Okay. I already *knew* all that...but here's the important thing: She researched it on her *own* and she came out and *said it,* and thought it was *important* for me to know.
Then, we started discussing the situation. I explained that, by the time the WGA strike is over, I'll have no less than three spec scripts (which is what I really need to get an agent) -- and I'll be ready to go with them, because I'm not union. (Yet.) All the WGA people aren't supposed to write *anything* while they're on strike.
Plus, by that time, SVU will probably be completing a wide story-arc, which means (*hopefully*) they may be ready for something new. Like "Defiled," "Unconditional," or "Blaze."
I feel a *lot* less edgy and anxious over it all. I finally feel like I can concentrate on writing, and not worry about selling for the moment. At least until the situation with Writers Guild shakes out. With Adam Beach signed for a 6-year contract, if the show's ratings hold (please God!), then I have more of an opportunity.
Finally. Something I can construe as a more hopeful situation.
