Character Information:
Real Name: Wanda Maximoff Code Name: Scarlet Witch Eye Color: Blue Hair Color: Auburn Height: 5ft 7" Weight: 127lbs Orientation: Straight Affiliation: Neutral Age: 20 Play By: Natalie Portman Original or Canon: Canon
Basic Physical Description:
Wanda was the awkward girl in her youth who bloomed into the beautiful girl she could be when puberty struck. Stunning blue eyes peered out from a crown of sleek brown locks that have never been shorter than her shoulders once the initial length was reached. Her skin has always been creamy in complexion and more or less flawless past the odd blemish that creeps out from the cracks from time to time. There is little fat on her bones these days - due largely to her build, gait and current weight. Due to the active lifestyle that she pursues it is unlikely that she will gain any weight at this moment in time. Though, this could change in the future.
In terms of clothes, Wanda wears clothes that are practical, trousers, low heels, t-shirts. Not that she won't flash the flesh to distract or get attention when she wants it. She just ... has to want to be in the mood first. Frankly, it doesn’t bother her to show flesh and isn’t modest about it.
Personality:
Wanda Maaximoff is a woman who will always be ruled primarily by her emotions. It is her emotional depth that allows her to feel compassion, hate, vengeance, anger and lust. It enables her to relate to the world around her on many levels – that are not exclusively linked to the cold hard logic of her father’s ideals. Sadly this emotional awareness is also a direct link to some her greatest vulnerabilities – just as she is very aware of her strengths Wanda is also exceptionally aware of her failings and thus strives to always make up for them. Sometimes to her detriment. Despite not holding entirely true to her Father’s tenement that the future lay with the homo superior she openly supported him in public despite the very visible signs that some of his actions and plans physically repulsed her. Why? Because she dearly wanted love, affection and support from the only surviving member of her heritage. Following his betrayal this desire for love has altered into a passionate fury directed solely at Magneto.
Due to being adopted Wanda has a child like uncertainty at her very core that she hid in the past behind a softly spoken manner that more or less reduced her to sycophant within the Brotherhood. Capable of manipulation and willing to sacrifice some of her principles and moral beliefs in order to facilitate the machinations of others made a rather manipulative, under handed young woman who was more than worthy of the fearful respect she was afforded by the lower ranked in her midst. Even then her temper (though less likely to erupt) was given a healthy degree of respect and she was duly avoided on the days when she emerged from her quarters with a scowl on her face. These days the uncertainy is hidden behind a veneer of simmering rage, flexible sexual morals and down right cruelty. Those who were familiar with her prior to her stint in a psyche ward might consider her now genuinely deranged, those who are more sympathetic (or human) may just recognize the lashing out child that she has become. Indeed, Wanda will tell you that she ‘doesn’t care’ about what has happened to her in her past, which in reality is a large lie, as much as she hates to admit it, she always has and always will.
Having been betrayed by the one man in her life whom she wanted love, respect and care from has left a second gaping hole in her armour. No one, and Wanda does intend to hold to this, is going to get that close to her heart again, and bar Pietro it is highly unlikely that anyone will see her vulnerabilities, insecurities or tears of sorrow.
Raised in a Pagan household enabled Wanda to develop a sense of peace and serenity with Earth, and despite her Jewish ancestry she opts to believe in more spiritual concepts of higher power than anything that can be found within an organized religion.
Personality Weakness
Family; Being an adopted child has had its good, and ill, effects upon Wanda. On the one hand she is grateful for all she was given, on the other there is a small part of her curious to know of the family that was left behind. Any possibility of tracking down Pietro will result in her diverting her sources into the endeavor. As for her Father? Wanda’s emotions towards Magneto are somewhere in the region of passionate fury meets murderous rage. The Daddy’s Girl is a no more, and the loyalty and love she felt for the man has withered away and died – granted the opportunity to show this to her father would make for a spectacular display and high possibility of her deviating from ‘mission parameters’ in order to get what she wants.
Mutant Powers:
The manner in which Wanda’s gifts could expand are both exponential, and unnerving to say the least. If asked to speculate upon her own gifts Wanda would most likely take the modest approach and tell you that she is happy as she is. If pressed she would state that she could see her gifts extending to the manipulation of time, reality and possibly even further again. One day she may be even be able to raise the dead.
For now; she operates with something she affectionately calls ‘hex bolts’. Globes of energy that alter the outcome, probability, or as some put it ‘luck’ of any given object or person. These bolts can achieve a number of results;
Solid objects; causing them to implode, explode, crumple, be crushed, malform, disintegrate, melt or crack.
Person; stumble, fall, drop something, disorientate, render unconscious, feel pangs of pain or pleasure, be caught up in an emotion, temporary sensory deprivation of one or all senses. Psychologically assault in some manner.
Gravity; defer it away from herself to cushion a fall, catch another, or alter the trajectory of an incoming or outgoing object.
Mutant Gift; A malfunction of some degree, in the past this has ranged from a telekinetic’s shield cracking open, to the wrong sort of effect being called down from on nigh. The results with this are wide and variable, not dependent upon the mental strength of the individual involved or their level of control. Rather it is entirely down to a very literal application of luck.
Herself; The beginnings of her Omega standing, and possibly pointing to something much more. When directing her energy down upon herself Wanda has varying success in the healing of minor wounds [meaning nothing bigger than a flesh wound to a none vital area of her person, sprains and strains] and expulsion of mild tranquilizers from her system.
In time she may acquire the ability to improve her senses so that she may see further, hear more clearly or sense something with more power.
Over ride Wanda has demonstrated the ability to over ride (read over turn/cancel out) the machinations of others who can manipulate probabilities. As always she manipulates them so that the odds fall in her favor.
Wanda can create 'streams' of energy as well as globes that she can hurl at specific targets.
-l-
Hypnosis; A tie to the above, Wanda has the ability to take others on guided meditation, or in laymen’s terms hypnosis. She can draw most willing subjects into a state of calm through tempered vocals, whilst others she can send into slumber and ensure they rest fully. Unwilling subjects can be made to bend to her will, either through the use of her powers her tenacity or both. Time consuming and wholly unrefined at this time.
Weaknesses:
Unreliability; There is currently a 20% unreliability factor attached to Wanda’s hex bolts. On top of this Wanda cannot select the outcome, assuming the bolts work the person she is effecting can do anything from trip up over ‘nothing’ to get hit by a car.
Time; Whether this is a psychological block or a definite necessity Wanda needs to perform hand gestures before casting one of her bolts. These gestures vary in length and thus she needs sufficient time to execute them. Not to mention that if hurried or flustered, Wanda will either have to start again from the beginning of she errs or alter her spell to something new. Improvised hexes on the spot have a higher chance of failure, or catastrophic fall out than her tried and tested attacks.
Build; Wanda has no formal hand to hand training, it is reflected in her appearance and the manner in which she carries herself. However she has a nasty streak that allows her the luxury of brawling, hair pulling and general cheating. In all honesty her true power comes from deep within and she is vaguely aware of this. As such corner her and get a successful hit in quick enough and the girl may well go down, and stay there. Additionally - at this point in time she has not yet unlocked all of the potential hexes she could cast upon her self to improve her well being - so toxins, tranqs, bullets, blades, gases, liquids, hots and colds can all cause her distress, pain and possible death.
Other Abilities/ talents:
Latent intelligence; Wanda’s gift operates by the calculation of complex mathematical equations in conjucture with hand gestures and intent. Though she has never sat down and taken an advanced calculus test she has an inherent skill with numbers, probabilities and other statistics.
Hedge witch; Wanda is a skilled and accomplished hedge witch in the tradition of the Celtic ancestry she was immersed in as a child. With the use of herbs and plants Wanda is capable of creating potions and lotions that can be used to aid in healing or soothe nerves. Sleeping potions of varying potency, along with natural ‘smoke’ bombs are her favored tricks. She can also create a natural version of MACE
Cooking; Due to her need to create potions Wanda is also an accomplished cook in the kitchen. Once she knows where things are she can work her way round kitchen as if it is a part of her home.
Meditation; Wanda was encouraged to attend these classes whilst in an institution. As such she has mastered the art of meditation, soothing ones mind, body and soul via the art of controlled breathing and freedom of thought. It centers and calms her, allowing for better clarity to cast hexes, create potions or reign in her formidable near toxic temper.
Basic History:
Wanda, along with her brother Pietro are the offspring of one Erik Leshnerr, aka Magneto. Born in Romania they took the surname Maximoff from the leader of the orphanage where their mother abandoned them for their own safety. It was written into their adoption papers that the surname Maximoff would remain a part of their identity. Convinced that Erik would claim, and subsequently warp the offspring into tools of his own design their mother Magda did what she considered to be the best for them. Signing them into the orphanage the only thing she left the pair with were their forenames. Wanda was the first to be adopted, by an Irish couple who were looking to do the ‘right’ thing by taking in a child from an impoverished country. Though they attempted to adopt the pair they were unable to afford the lawyer’s fees to complete Pietro’s adoption, and thus he was left behind. So at the grand age of 18 months old, Wanda was brought into a world that was akin to the second coming, she was lavishly spoilt and lovingly raised in a family that valued its spiritual beliefs and the basic concept of human kindness.
Wanda flourished at school, finding an outlet for her latent intelligence, she devoured books and though making it onto the school’s netball team achieved numerous good grades. Wanda came into her gifts at that traditional period in life. Puberty. Superstitious locals called Wanda’s assorted flickers of probability witchcraft and as the outcomes became steadily more disturbing ‘sorcery’. Concerned for the well being of their child, the family moved to London where a coven was found for Wanda, she was 16.
The coven worked with Wanda and through the concept of ‘everything has a balance’ and demonstrating this theory to her via paganism and nature basic control was steadily instilled into Wanda and her, at times, erratic powers. Over the course of 18 months Wanda studied her gift, paganism, meditation and A Levels enabling her to develop assorted tricks and traps. In short, what started out as little more than party favors evolved into an understanding and grasp of how truly powerful this ‘poor little girl’ may truly be. Wanda’s depth of understanding grew, and grew till the point was reached where she could emerge into the world…
Having spent much of her time either with the coven, or at school, Wanda had little time to spend with friends and thus had not noticed changes in the political climate - in regards to the growing trend of mutants or what was happening in her social circle. Eighteen years old and already she had an idea about what she wanted to do next. For Wanda, university was the viable option, but first she wanted to make up for lost time. With her parent’s blessing she took some money from home and took a year out to travel around Europe. Or rather, that was the plan … visiting the place of her birth (Romania) Wanda’s gifts had a distinctly ‘delightful’ flare up, a small fire later and the superstitious Irish locals that Maximoff had come across in their ‘homeland’ had nothing on the terrified mob that (literally) grabbed their pitchforks and chased her out of town. Startled and cowering in an alleyway trying to figure out how she could return to her hostel, get her belongings and get on the first train out of the area she was discovered … by none other than the Master of Magnetism himself – Erik Lehnsherr.
Neither party knew of the twists of fate that awaited them but with the mob surrounding them and Wanda none too pleased at the idea of using her gift against the frightened uneducated masses it was the old gentleman with the twinkle in his eye that saved her life, and offered her a rather interesting peek into a new one. With time left on her gap year, Wanda went with Magneto to America – and entered into his growing Brotherhood. Had Wanda known what awaited her then she would not have entered onto such a winding, slippery path and sad to say by the time she had realized she had a completely different reason to stay put. What she did eventually find challenged every moral principle she had ever had presented to her, yet the idea of learning more about the Father she had never met (and the idea that Fate might be at work) pushed her to stay within the rank and file of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
Wanda would never claim to be happy within the fledgling Brotherhood world as a young woman of 19 but she would state that she was relieved to be in the presence of her father. Forming a close relationship with him she hung on his every word, smiled at his every witty remark and though some of his suggestions turned her stomach she went along with them. Supremacy did not exactly thrill her, especially when she believed that genocide was wrong but she kept the opinion as close to her chest as possible. Apparently though – this was not enough, that or the nature of her powers was cause for concern within the senior ranks. Either way Wanda found herself at a disadvantage when her beloved father betrayed her trust and disintegrated any good will she had for him by sending his only (known) daughter to an asylum in an attempt to curve her potential powers and, more importantly, her tongue. In the space of six months Wanda had been granted, and then had wrenched from her everything that she had ever held dear.Within the rank and file of the Brotherhood Wanda came into contact with her estranged sibling Pietro - though the pair had little time together to really get to know each other, Wanda wants to learn more of him. In a hall full of ‘witnesses’ Wanda watched as she was labeled schizophrenic and paranoid. On top of this, those she had considered friends stood by and did nothing, her brother wasn’t even in the room – though had he been – she may have escaped the humiliation of being sedated for raising a hand in self defense. The trip to the sanitarium was a disorientated blur and stripped of her possessions she was left on the grounds to be discovered by the staff, blathering like a lunatic and taken inside. Blood tests did not reveal the narcotics in her system, and as if on cue her father appeared to sign the papers and have his supposedly beloved daughter taken away. What sickened her the most was that Erik looked just as he did the day he saved his children.
Fully aware of her sanity being intact, anger, vengeance and hate has slowly grown within Wanda as she has been ritualistically humiliated, sedated and forced to attend ‘group therapy’ sessions in order to curve an apparent case of paranoid schizophrenia. To this day she has had no visitors or guests – serving to further manipulate the bitterness that is starting to fester within her core. Despite all of the destruction being wrought upon her esteem and mind only one thought is keeping her will together – the promise of revenge on her father, and the need to know what happened to Pietro, and more importantly to find out why he did not come and rescue her.
As soon as she can escape the sedative’s needle long enough to facilitate her escape she intends to find everything out …

The white of the padded walls would have blinded anyone accustomed to the natural light of the earth with their sterile facade. There was no obscurity. No life. The only memory of such a thing was huddled in the corner of the cell, tightly trapped in a strait-jacket, which had the same intense whiteness of the cursed room. The dark-haired, young woman huddled as close to the corner as her frail body would allow. Her slender legs curled as best they could close to her chest. The blue orbs that used to be so full of life and laughter scared vacantly at nothing in particular. Strands of her dark hair hung limp and low over her eyes. The thoughts that normally ran through her mind, played before her eyes so many times that they started to become mixed and senseless. Her guard would sometimes catch her mumbling… something nonsensical to his ears. It was actually the blending of languages that she had learned through her short life, filled with traumatic experiences. Wanda found that she usually only had room for one emotion at a time, for each was filled with such passion, that it was the dictator of her choices and demeanor. At the moment, it was a calm rage that had been her only companion in the slow-passing months. She tended to it like a mother, watching it steadily grow into a fuming, yet controlled fire that steadily consumed her heart and body. The succulent prospect of revenge kept her warm at night, and even stirred a passion in her mind at that very moment. She felt her arms quiver with anticipation. For the first time in hours, there was actual movement in her eyes. They shifted in the general direction of the exit.
The memories of her father, the betrayer, played cruelly on her mind. It was like toxin. Beads of sweat formed on her brow as her blue eyes blazed with kindled hatred. Her breath had been drawn out of its drawl and into near hyperventilation. She wanted out. It was nearly impossible to keep all of this rage contained within her slim body. She wanted revenge. Her blood began to boil, which brought color back into her pale cheeks. Without her noticing, the austere white of her straight-jacket had grown slightly thinner and grayed into ashen. As quickly as it had started, Wanda snapped out of it and it stopped. She looked down, her eyes darkening with a mix of fear and worry. The turn of her head also startled the stillness of her dry throat. Wanda groaned with the unexpected pain of her parched throat, it was swollen, and when she moved, it felt like fire had ripped through her flesh. Water… She thought wearily as her eyelids grew heavy against the onslaught of the bright lights from the ceiling. With pure will, she bit down on her cracked bottom lip, making it crack. Warm ribbons of blood ran down her plump lip; she could taste the saltiness of it as her tongue wiped it clean.
Another hour passed before a face appeared in the small window of the door. It was her only visual access to the outside of her cell. The man looked tense as he slid a tray of food through a trap door. As soon as it had made it through, he vigorously locked it up as though poison gas may spew out of the opening at any moment. Wanda had lost the energy to treat him with her daily glare, and was instead trying to make her way to the tray, her eyes exclusively on the water. She was forced to swallow her dignity and lapped it as best as she could, as her ensnared hands were useless. A cough racked though her body when she had swallowed some of it the wrong way. She instantly hoisted herself up using her leg and leaned against the padded wall.
I’ll find my way out of here sooner or later… Wanda tried to give herself hope, yet the thought had not given her the effect she so desired. She knew that no one cared enough about her to come. Her thoughts instantly turned towards her brother, whom she hardly knew, and wondered if he had any clue as to where she was at the moment. Magneto was now dead to her as a father; he was just another figure she wanted nothing more than to knock out of potential power… permanently.
