dungeons and dragons

ok i seriously want to play a game of dungeons and dragons, it used to be that if someone would ever invite me to a game i would probably play (never did get invited)

but now i am actively searching for online versions of D&D (and no not the crappy mmo) or any variation of it.

i think its This Comic that pushed me over the edge.


looks fun as hell.


oh and if anyone is interested, that is the 50th webcomic i have started reading.

- OK, I'm confused. This whole time I assumed they sold a whole set I could buy. Now I see huge rule books, story books, player pieces, monster pieces, story expansions...
- It's a collector's game. I think they assume friends would already buy some stuff and bring it together before playing. Because to buy all this stuff would cost hundreds of dollars. It's not like a trading card game where I can at least get the basics in a $10 starter pack.
- Maybe we should start collecting...Because if we do it in video game form...we're essentially playing WoW.

My dad played it when he was about my age. He said it takes so much to set it up, like you actually have to draw your own map or something like that. From what I've seen it does look expensive and everyone would need to buy their own stuff but I'd be willing to try it. Might have to put in noob rules until we fully understand it because when I saw the rule book and I thought it was a dictionary.

Although parts of WoW is based on D&D, I think it would still be quite different from it.

see this is exactly why im looking for it online, it would be free, all the story addons would be free, the 10 lb rule book would have a search function. stuff like that.

They sell a set at the Barnes and Noble. It was a small set for about $20. My mother used to play D&D years ago with her friends (they went racing and drinking with my father's friends).

actualy doing some research, i realized that there are more female D&D players then there are male.

Feeling kind of meh on the online but playing in real life would have its hassles, we could try online. Maybe we should try advertising at school for more people XD.

actually just set up a vent server (or something simaler, we could probably just set up a voice chat group in MSN messenger, or Yahoo messenger.) after that there is no real difference.


also if we do set up a game, i do NOT want to be a GM. seriously, i would probably pull a tomb of horrors on you guys.

so umm i found a program... it has a very nice visual interface, very good for beginers... just post here and ill PM you a link.

Still hesitant about playing now thinking about both options, but it is free. Having an idiot I know would be better then pugging idiots. I'll start on it if you won't abandon me because I feel like playing with a friend is the only reason I would play it at all.

Thats why im asking here, i would rather play with people who i can tell, at least to SOME degree, wont go crazy and just kill everyone.

Also i found a good campaign for starters, it was originally designed for when the 3rd edition ruleset cam out and NO ONE knew how to play anymore because of all the rule changes. there are still a few parts i dont understand, but they can easily be filled in.

Im willing to be DM if no one else wants to... at least this time, dont expect me to be DM for every campaign.

It recommend having 6 people in the party (7 if you count the DM).

I personally recommend we get either a Ventrillo server, or if not all of us have mic's then at least all of us should use the same IM service.

and we need to set up a schedule other then "when we are all online" i recommend tuesdays and thursdays, time doesnt matter.

I used Vent its simple but there is that fee.

One of the reasons I didn't want to play online is because of needing to be commited to it and it looks like it might sway that way.

not at all, its just easier to set it up. plus if you cant make it to a game, it would be easier to tell everyone.

no one else is interested? ther is no commitment... i suppose i could always find other players. but like rebel i would rather play with my friends.

K im altering the Campaign and Ruleset to include new classes, and let us use our own characters instead of forcing us to use the ones that the campaign gives us.


and is no one really interested? Jan? Murdock?
