I Swear By Apollo

Loken could feel his arm sliding down something, what felt like a leg. Normally, that would seem quite strange considering he didn't live with anyone, but after all, now he did. So, that obviously meant somehow, his arm had gotten around her, and now she was awake. 'Crap.' He thought, hoping she wasn't offended or anything.

He rose up from the bed to see Shyra eating something, presumably breakfast. He smiled a bit, 'Damn did I make a good choice or what?' He asked himself, proud of his judge of character, for once at least...

He rubbed his muscled chest and traced his fingers lightly over the scar that was starting to form. Not that it mattered, he didn't mind scars all that much. "Good morning." He commented, voice a bit groggy from waking up still. Then, he noticed another tray of food, and his datapad, except it was blinking. He all but launched himself up out of the bed and over to the table in one quick, fluid movement.

He all but lunged for the datapad, picking it up and reading the message. "Another job offer..." He commented out loud, "Awesome." He turned to Shyra and grinned, "Looks like you'll be earning your keep sooner than expected. Says here that the Alliance Military are holding some kind of Antipiracy raid. Standard stuff really." He read the message over again, and checked out the pay. "Oh yeah... So worth it." He whistled a bit. This was going to be great.

He looked up and studied the Quarian, almost as if seeing her through her mask, of course, he didn't have the first clue what she really looked like under the protective suit, but it didn't much matter to him... "What?" He asked, noticing that she was pretty much doing the same thing to him, beside the mask part of course.
((btw, both Turians and Quarians are Dextro-Amino, so they both eat the same kinds of food, fyi, ))

((Right, that's cool then. Let's just have it that Shyra doesn't know about all kinds of food she can eat then, she hasn't seen it all yet))

Shyra was startled by the sudden dash of Loken's, he grabbed the datapad and joined her at breakfast.
The turian soon was telling of a job offer of the Systems Alliance, which sounded promising enough, regarding the kind of employer.

"A job so soon after you lost half your blood? Not exactly to my liking, but at least I'm coming with you, so I can keep an eye on you."
She winked even though he probably didn't see it under her dark visor.

"What?"

"Oh, well, I just found it strange to think of; a quarian and a turian being partners and all, living together...I think most people would think us to be crazy. If we aren't already."

Reaching over, Shyra pushed Loken's plate closer to him.
"I hope you like this, cooked it myself."

"If being the keyword there." Loken commented.

Although he had to agree a little bit, most people would find it weird, not that Loken cared much what people thought about him. He wondered if Shyra felt the same way.

"I hope you like this, cooked it myself."

Loken had almost completely forgotten the plate of food in front of him, but the reminder made him think. There of course ran the risk of him getting sick, regardless of how edible it might be to other species. He decided, despite the fact that the job would require him being at top health, to eat.

Then, the paranoid part of Loken kicked in. He trusted the Quarian so far, but what if that was what she wanted? What if the food was poisoned? After all he had done for her?

He mentally chastised himself for thinking that, after all, his gut was telling him that she was fully trustworthy.

He slowly started to eat, but upon seeing that he wasn't getting the quick sickness and nausea so normal. "This is very good." He quickly added, reminding himself to be generous.

((with the whole visor stuff and everything... don't you find it weird that Bioware almost doesn't want us to know what they really look like? lol))

Shyra gave a content giggle, before nodding.
"Thanks! I snuck some antibiotic agents in there, so it might have a bit of a bitter taste, though."

Just then, she sneezed. It was more of a weird cough, but the quarian did sneeze. She started fingering her visor, before sighing.
"Sorry."
Shaking her head, she resumed eating, finishing quickly and before Loken. After that the medical student stood and returned the plate to the kitchen sink, where she started washing it off.

"How does this work then, we contact them and wait for them to respond to us? I believe I also need some equipment then..."
Shyra trailed off into mumbling.

((Yeah, but I got my hopes up that they'll show some of the quarians without armour in ME2))

"I believe I also need some equipment then..."

Loken let out a grin. "I was hoping you'd say that." He commented, walking over to one of his secure lockers. He typed in a quick combination, popped it open, and stepped aside, revealing some of the best weapons and armors money could buy legally, and even some that weren't fully legal. There was everything a mercenary ever needed. Medical supplies, guns, armor, mods, biotic amps (only for Loken of course), a few Tech tools, things of that sort.

He reached in and pulled out a couple weapons, his personal weapons to be exact, and motioned for Shyra to get what she needed. "Take whatever you want, need, or think might be useful." He thought for a minute before adding, "Do you even know how to use a gun?" Loken's tone was certainly not unkind, more questioning than anything. He would be willing to assume yes, but better to be safe than sorry.

Feeling uneasy when the turian revealed one of his lockers to be a gun rack, Shyra stayed seated for a while, before he posed the final question.

"Do you even know how to use a gun?"

"...well, I learned the basics before my pilgrimage...I wasn't expecting to be using them..."
Standing, she walked over to the stack and ran her eyes over some of the weapons.
Neglecting the assault rifle and shotguns completely, she instead grabbed pistol and sniper rifle. Then she took an updated omni-tool and medicals.

"I'll have those, if you allow."

Shyra raised the sniper rifle to aim, and found it easy enough.
"This feels right.", she concluded with an enthusiastic voice.

Loken could tell that Shyra was a bit uneasy about the whole situation, but it was mostly unavoidable. He couldn't just let her follow him into combat with nothing but her hands and some medical supplies. He watched as she picked out some supplies, pistol, and sniper and nodded at her choices. He could tell it would work out quite well.

"I'll have those, if you allow."

Loken nodded his approval. "From now on, they're yours."

"This feels right."

"Good to hear." The turian commented, before continuing on. "I usually have all my stuff with me at all times, but if you find it better to have your stuff contained, there are some cases and bags in the locker over there." He nodded in the direction of a small locker on its own in a corner of the room.

"Until it gets closer to the time we need to get moving, we have time to relax, and discuss certain things." Luckily, the mission wasn't for another day, so they had time. "So, if theres anything you need to say, now is a perfect time."

When Loken pointed at the locker, Shyra immediately headed there, and found herself a combat bag to replace her old, somewhat fragile one. She retrieved it from the bed, and began packing its contents into the other one.
Then she attached her two weapons to her back, and clipped the combat bag to her back as well. She then did a bit of stretching to see if it was hindering her in any way.
The last thing the quarian wanted was slowing Loken down or hindering him in some way.
As nothing seemed to be out of order however, Shyra turned to the turian and nodded.

"So, if theres anything you need to say, now is a perfect time."

"As an expert, do you think this this good?", she asked him, pointing at her back.

"As an expert, do you think this this good?"

Loken contemplated that for a few seconds, before starting to respond.

"This will take a few minutes of explanation to get a full point across, so if you feel the need to get comfortable, by all means feel free to."

He began to pace back and forth through the room, strategies and outcomes flying around in his head, situations and battlefield tactics. He had to think through all of the aspects that this operation would deal with.

"It's hard to say. I can only offer opinions from my perspective on this. I tend not to know the conditions I'll be fighting in until I get to the fighting." He paused for a second before continuing on. "From what it seems like, we're going to be involved in close quarters and long ranged simultaneously, but I never know for sure." He looked back towards the gun locker, before looking back at Shyra and continuing on.

"I've got the sniper set to anti-personel rounds, which is a good thing considering the style of this operation. The pistol however, is set to anti-synthetic, which will be a good back up just in case. The recoil and heat is drastically reduced on the sniper thanks to some..." He searched for the right term, "Less than legal modifications..."

He paused for a few seconds, waiting for some sort of objection. Hearing none, he continued on. "As for the pistol, the accuracy is fairly good, and those bullets could tear holes straight through a geth or similar synthetics."

More than anything, he was really only thinking out loud, processing ideas as he spoke. "I'd say, if you don't mind, grab a shotgun just in case. Any of them will do in a pinch really, it doesn't matter which you pick, it all comes down to a matter of comfort, stability, and ease of use. In other words, if you like it, take it."

Needless to say, Shyra was surprised to hear the turian talk about the mission like it was just another day of work.
Then she scolded herself. This was another work day for him.

"I'd say, if you don't mind, grab a shotgun just in case."

Without objecting, she grabbed herself another weapon, this time one of the shotguns. She tried several, before settling with a short-barreled one.
Pleased, she attached it to the holster on her lower back, before doing the stretching part again.

"Alright, alright.", she mumbled to herself. It was great to find Loken in his element though, so far Shyra had only shown her own expertise at medical stuff, but now she was convinced to be in good hands.

She didn't mind the obviously illegal modifications, Loken probably had his reasons for that. But one part stuck with her...

"I just hope your...our employer doesn't mind these mods."
Shyra hinted at the Systems Alliance's legality with that.

Loken grinned at her comment. "I've worked with Systems Alliance before. I'm not a part of their military, I'm just a merc, so they can't dictate what I can and can't use on my missions." Which was true enough. He wasn't tied down by their rules, and if they didn't like it, then they'd have a hard time finding a merc good enough to replace him. There weren't very many out there, and the ones that could, wouldn't settle for less than double of what they were paying him.

He thought for a moment before adding, "Anything else?"
