Title: Applying For Olympic Tickets

Barbara - April 5, 2011 10:48 AM (GMT)
I am planning on going to see some of the Olympics. My daughter lives in London so I can stay with her and she will come with me as I cannot manage on my own.
Officially as a Disabled Person I can apply for a free carer's ticket but here is the rub.
1. I apply for 1 ticket
2. I am allocated it and pay for it.
3. I then apply for a carer's ticket.
4. I am not allocated it
5. I cannot attend and they will refund my payment if I want them to.

The only way round this is to buy 2 tickets in the first place if I am to ensure going.
What a crazy way of doing things but a sure way of making it impossible for many disabled people to attend.
Why is there no provision to prove entitlement and order 1 plus Carer to start with.
Crazy melodramatic melodramatic

Because it's the Olympic committe doing the organising. People whose credit cards expired any time up until this August were originally unable to purchase on-line due to some 'glitch'. People who put this sort of thing together seldom learn how to do it properly. I wonder whether it's been considered for the Paralympics?

I used to live about a mile way from the Olympic site, and I'm astonished at the changes to that part of London - never would have believed Stratford and Leyton would become 'sought after' areas to live. My, how the world changes.

I hate having to pre book anything, as i just never know :( I have concerts coming up at the 02 London, first one May 5th and the tickets went on sale a year ago!! I am still unsure if i can do it or not ... any advice would be great

Wish I could help with advice, but I've not only had to miss a couple of gigs, I spent a vast fortune on seat and train tickets to go and see Chelsea that I've had to waste on the day because of feeling ill. Sadly I limit myself to the odd thing now and just hope for the best. I sure do miss going to my games :(

Tony, Sorry to hear you can't get to many matches. I expect the price oif Chelsea tickets is astronomical too. Just passed by Olympic Stadium on way out of London on the train - looks good. I'd like to go just for the experience but Iam expecting the competition for tickerts to be hot. Some of the prices are eye watering! At least they are trying to fair by not restricting allocations to those with the fastest broadband connection. Kathx

Living so far from any big venues, I haven't been to any concerts or shows etc in years. I did manage London by coach last year and am off to Downton Abbey next week with my mother in law (not the orange one I hasten to add!!)
This will be the furthest I've travelled since last summer and am hoping I'll be migraine free for the weekend as that seems to be my "thing" at the moment.
I'd say just go for it Sally. You might pay for it afterwards...but so long as you enjoy it at the time...what the heck!
You only live once and it's no life if you never do anything you enjoy.
I would take it really easy the week leading up to your trip and try not to worry beforehand.....just have a great time cheerleader cheerleader

Ticket prices are VERY steep. Mind you, in not going I do get to save around £50-60.00 on buying rounds of drinks - so, every cloud, eh?

Sally, I agree with Shazza ( :D ) - rest as much as possible in the days leading up to the event. For the few gigs I have managed in recent years, that's what I've done. Yes, the long day, the lights and the noise will make you suffer a little as a consequence, but it's worth it. I have a trip to the Hammersmith Apollo booked in June and I am desperate not to miss that. Went to see Barenaked Ladies last year, but that was fairly local in Cambridge.

And yes, Barenaked Ladies are a band and not a risque stripper act ;)

SUsie - April 5, 2011 08:25 PM (GMT)
Lovely Tony JF we have another commonality I lived in Cambridge/shire for 10years :D
Sally I agree with the others please do go to the o2, and take it easy for a good few days before hand.
Once there if you start to feel wobbly simply try to relax and breath deeply through your nose and out through an open mouth might sound daft but its worked for me when at concerts, theatre etc with loud noise and flashing lights.
Think positivity and how much you will enjoy seeing Barry "do his thing" cool dude Susie.XX

Oh, please do, Sally. Listening to Barry from a hundred miles away is really the ONLY way to cope ;)

As for you lying flat out in a hotel bed, well, really, I'm shocked. Talk about lowering the tone :P

Lovely Tony JF I thought we had agreed never to discuss "that momentous night"...
Yes the rash did clear eventually after 3 courses of super strength antibiotics. Thankfully the memory lives on and on and on melodramatic

More lovely than lovely TonyJF Susie

I'm so sorry - I completely forgot about our agreement, and thank you for not ever setting the CPS onto me.

The night in question was, indeed, momentous, and I fear the audience we had in the car park will feel the same way. Certainly their sustained applause and cries for 'more' suggested as much. I don't think anyone had ever seen the suspension of a 3 ton Ford Transit give way like that before.

I will always cherish the memory, if not the after effects. Of course, I don't have to rely on memory, as I had a hidden camera recording the event for posterity. I believe it gets five-star ratings on YouTube.

I am not sure how we reached this point from my grumble about Olympic Tickets.
I should say, that some of you need to get out more, but we all know why that isn't possible. I have heard of Virtual Parties but ...............

My apologies to all those only just learning about the sense of humour of some of the group who are rapidly heading towards the 'naughty step'

Think I must search for a new emoticom !!!

Barbara

My apologies for going off topic. :(

Though I'm not sure what you thought I meant - I was talking about a wonderful night of trampolining. What did you think I meant?

I will think about my behaviour and promise to at least try to behave in future.

I would suggest an emoticon brandishing a cane, but who knows what you'd make of that ;)

Sincere apologies if anyone has been offended by my juvenile attempts at humour.

Trampolining? Of course!!... I thought that it might have been Morris Dancing.
What a dirty mind you must have Barbara...what on earth did you think they'd been up to? ;) :P

And anyway....isn't bedroom olympics a recognised event devil

SUsie - April 7, 2011 06:34 PM (GMT)
Oh dear I to must take some responsibility for the "going off track" with "the lovely TonyJF".
I promise to behave in future with no more riske comments and hopefully Barbara will have no need to threaten my with the naughty step....
Although it was gret fun ;) ;) Susie.

mum14cats - April 7, 2011 07:10 PM (GMT)

I blame my MD sometimes it makes me type things I don't mean too !!!
Plus being good all the time would be dull stirring devil

TonyJF - April 8, 2011 06:58 AM (GMT)
I blame Susie, completely and utterly. I was an innocent, shy and reserved, meek as a lamb, until Susie led me astray with her wicked wiles. I was entranced and did not know what I was saying whilst under her spell.

That said...it was very enjoyable. It was nice to think of myself as 'lovely TonyJF' for just a while rather than 'ordinary TonyJF', but then the threat of the naughty step came along and crushed all my dreams.

I'm now beginning to wonder if...sob...Susie...sob...ever cared...sob...for me...blub.

After that one glorious night together I now feel so...so...so used... melodramatic

Anyway, back to Olympic tickets.... wave

I rather imagine one that has Lesley Phillips smoothing his tache and saying "Ding dong".
