Alpha "Hitman" Company
It was to be their last large operation on Earth, after this the plan was to head to space to push back against ZAFT, show them what it was like to have their home invaded. ZAFT created Mobile Suits, but in Major Gordan's opinion, O.M.N.I. had perfected it. ZAFT's Mobile Suit forces had not stood a chance once the Dagger models had been sent to the front lines, still this was his first real outing in this command, sure he'd drilled with them and he knew most of the people under his command, but still it was only from training. Right now he was about to start giving them their briefing, he knew that most of them were experienced so that was a plus, even if they didn't know how to work with other perfectly yet, it meant they'd know enough to at least work together with the basics.
All seventeen of his pilots were here, he and the other two Company commanders and the tank battalion commander had already been briefed by Lt. Colonel Illium, Maj. Murakumo, the mercenary, and Maj. Makepeace, Makepeace also had the fighter Group to brief, they didn't have enough Mobile Suits so they got the fighters to fill in. The two of them should be starting their own briefings as well, maybe not right at this moment but soon. They were only about nine or ten hours away from the staging area, a place known as Yunlin County.
He looked out at his pilots before turning on the screen behind him,
"As I'm sure you're all aware, our sister Battalion, the 6th, was pulled from our operational area three weeks ago. Lieutenant Colonel Illium assures me that we are expected to join back up with them once our respective operations are complete, should everything go according to plan. Currently they are part of Operation Sidewinder, they're going to have a separate mission from us. I'm sure some of you figured it out based on where we stepped off, but our little piece is going to be in Taiwan, we are currently part of Operation Basilisk, and we get to set the stage for an attack on Kaohsiung.""The plan is that once we set up shop on the ground and get our FOB running in Yunlin County." he said as he pointed out the county on the map that filled the screen behind him.
"The enemy has forces along the coast, they are light but still a threat. We won't need to worry about the enemy closing around us, the rest of our 9th fleet, and the 8th fleet, which includes General Thomas and our Division's first four Battalions, will be hitting them along the western coastline. Our Battalion will be landing at the Taisi township, where the enemy has what appears to be two Platoon sized Mobile Suit units defending a small outpost near our landing zone. We'll need to take out the force quickly. Our Company will be heading around on the left flank of the enemy outpost, while Bravo Company will head up the middle, Charlie Company will advance along the right flank, we will converge around on Bravo, coming from behind the enemy force to neutralize them.""Our objective is to take Douliu City, the Yunlin capital. This is the best location in the county for a FOB, but it will take an hour to get there after taking the beach. There is moderate resistance expected in the city, minimum estimates put it at around two Companies of enemy Mobile Suits there, but this could change based on the attacks along the coast. Once we are in the city our Company will split up, first Platoon will come from the north, along Highway 37, while second Platoon does the same from the northwest on Highway 39, and third Platoon from the northeast on Highway 15. The other Companies will be coming in from the south and west in a similar pattern so that we can support each other if needed, while an allied tank Battalion will be moving in on the west with our Charlie Company, they'll have HMGMVs (High Mobility Guided Missile Vehicle), and AHMUVs (Armored High Mobility Utility Vehicle) with them, the infantry forces riding in the AHMUVs are going to storm our objective."He then points out a structure on the map.
"The Mobile Suit forces will begin their attack first, so as to have the enemy deploy most of it's forces to come after us. We will converge on this building, this is their command center and the objective for the operation. Deal with any targets you spot quickly and move on, we must reach the command center within ten minutes of initiating contact. Once we've secured the area, the armored division will send in their infantry forces, and they'll seize the structure. We will provide cover, and destroy any hostile forces that attempt to get our guys out of there, but there shouldn't be much of a threat left after we've fought through them to get there anyway. The idea is to rush in, and while the enemy is still realizing that we are there, our guys will storm the building. Then we fight off anything that we didn't kill on the way in."They displaced the civilians so don't worry too much about damage to the city, even so try to avoid leveling the entire city. But we are encouraged to take out a few buildings to distract the enemy, as they've re-purposed a number of them for their own use, just make sure they aren't in our path if you do and that you aren't making yourself combat ineffective by doing so. Twenty seconds before our assault begins, the ships will fire missiles, and smoke into the city to help further throw off the enemy, so that they won't be able to tell where we are headed. The violence of action will be to our advantage, just remember that we must decide the tempo of the battle, the enemy must not be allowed to decide for us. Keep the tempo up, kill whatever you see on your way to the objective, do not get slowed down in your advance, and do not go hunting for the enemy. Follow your team leader and your map, we can't afford to be split off from each other.""We still have ten hours until we arrive from our launch point, so I advise you all to go over your dossiers for your team's specific location and get some rest. Hitman Three-Two (Alpha Company, 3rd Platoon, 3rd Squad) is on Alert Thirty, everyone else is Alert Forty-five, until we are one and a half hours out from our destination, at which point Hitman Two-One (Alpha Company, 2nd Platoon, 1st Squad) will go on Alert Five, while everyone else will move up to Alert Fifteen. The codename for our part of Operation Basilisk is Operation Atlas. Oh, and one last thing, I know we've all been trained in naval landings, and just like normal we'll stick to Marine code names after we've launched as well, I'll be Hitman 1-1 Actual, Captain Garcia will be Hitman 2-1 Actual, Captain Grayson will be Hitman 3-1 Actual and so on, we will not be going with the air force terms like those Whiskey Tango dicks in the 6th did, you've all been trained on how it goes. Dismissed." ___________________________________________
Bravo "Assassin" Company
Gai was still getting used to being in full uniform again, and more than that being in command of others. He was in charge of Elijah while they were in Serpent Tail, but now he had a full seventeen pilots under him. He didn't know them as well as he'd have liked, but that was to be expected considering how he'd been rushed into this billet. It was a shame that only Elijah was there, and he was in a different company anyway. So Gai only had "new" people to work with, they were all experienced, but he was sure that the only reason they listened to him as well as they had up to this point was that he'd been in OMNI before, even if he hadn't had this rank. But he was permitted to wear his old awards, and that showed them where he'd been and how he'd down.
So he at least had their respect, though as little as he knew about the people under him, he knew even less about the ones in the rest of the 5th Battalion. Specifically the other company commanders, he was sure they knew what they were doing but being on different ships meant that he never saw them much, save for when they were called by Lt. Col. Illium, and, even then the few jokes they'd tossed around didn't amount to much anyway. Still, they only had a few hours left now so he needed to call his pilots together for a briefing, it would be their first time working together in a "real" situation. So he hit the intercom on his wall,
"Major Murakumo to Bravo Company, head to briefing room three for a mission briefing in fifteen minutes. Repeat, Bravo Company head to briefing room three in fifteen." he said before he started to head to the briefing room, he'd be early but he needed to prepare before the rest of his Company got there anyway.
