| QUOTE | | Misaka Mikoto: No matter how much I wash my I can’t distance myself from the bloodied hands that has taken so many innocent lives. |
Personality:
To most people she is considered a proper lady, but in reality Mikoto is short-tempered, prideful and has an improper attitude with some slight tomboyish tendencies and insecurities. Despite that she is generally friendly and easygoing to people who are below her. Often times she shows childish, competitive side and even slight tsundere tendencies along with confused affections towards things that occur around her. Although fond of cute, childish things such as flowery pajamas and stuffed toys, she acts prim and proper in public, and hardly expresses her true desires, be it in her taste of clothing or her fanatic love for all things cuddly. Contrary to what she claims though, she has a strong sense of morals and hates injustice, demonstrated by her frequent involvement with volunteer cadets during her youth.
Mikoto is exceptionally intelligent, achieving and keeping the top position in the national rankings during her period in high school while was assisting Kojima Atomics with technological development of military hardware.
Background:
Daughter of Misaka Tabikake and Misuzu, Mikoto entered the University of Tokyo (Todai) at an early age and distinguished herself as a child prodigy. Initially she started out in the electrics engineering before moving onto atomics research with the national academia for science and technology (NAST). Her abilities, together with her superb athletic prowess made her a perfect candidate for the military development of combat clones, of which she unknowingly aided for, albeit the failure to development a working model resulted in a swift cancellation of the project.
Mikoto continued her academia until the age of fourteen when she decided to join the military. As a prominent figure in the realm of scientific research she was welcomed with open arms, despite her family’s disagreements over the matter. There she joined the military academy and was schooled for a period before getting invited to join the agency, EDU’s special forces teams. While she truly believes in good and evil, Mikoto acknowledges that by keeping to her current career she will eventually come to a point where she will have to decide between betraying her ideals against her contradictions.
The time came during a secret operation where she was assigned to attack and capture or destroy a space shuttle carrying political refugees with vital information that could enable Solaria to swing the long war in their favor. Mikoto, together with her team conducted the assault and was surprised to see it escorted by Solaria manufactured Zakos, leading the team to believe they were targeting fleeing criminals charged with high treason.
In truth, the shuttle was carrying civilians, among them, Éclair W. Martinozzi and Clyde Sancs(F.) Halaoun, parents of Chrono Sancs. Halaoun. Despite efforts by the Zakos, the special forces were able to completely destroy the escorts and destroy the shuttle. Éclair would fortunately survive because she was pushed into the escape pod by her husband’s sacrifice. It was only two years later that she uncovered partial fragments of the distorted truth, leading her to believe there were civilians aboard the shuttle (but not realizing there was no political refugees onboard).
This slowly brought her towards her distrust in the EDU as a whole, although that she was no longer confident she was doing the right thing, she continued with her ways as she saw no reprise in bringing up a case the military brass would not even acknowledge. Her fighting style began to slowly shift towards one of disabling her enemies as she saw no true right and wrong in the war, only life and death. Despite her denials, she feels terrible guilt over the shuttle accident and believed that there was something she could do but did not do back then, which resulted in the many innocent lives lost and wishes to do something to atone for her mistakes. Despite all that, she remains faithfully loyal to her mission and will risk everything to complete it, believing that she now carries upon herself the truth of the death of several dozen innocent lives.
Following the incidents after the shuttle attack, Mikoto volunteered to transfer into the Irregulars, a squadron clobbered up with many people who didn’t fit in any particular division. Her decision was permitted and she was to captain the Irregulars. Her titular alias; the Quadra is derived from her combat style involving two rifles and two sabers, hence, Quadra of the Irregulars.
