Title: Meteoria Squadron[Approved]
Description: 909th Tactical Fighter Squadron

Dominic - July 1, 2011 04:07 PM (GMT)
Meteoria is the codename of the 909th Tactical Fighter Squadron, a team formed during the war from the merger of a number of different air wings that suffered heavy losses from various battles. Its history dates back to LC48, where the main component of Meteoria’s forces, the Vampire Squadron (9TFS) was the instrumental figures that ensured Solaria’s defensive victory during the battle of Laguash. To compensate the loss of 9TFS’s main fighting strength they were reinforced by the merger of Pixie (12TFS). Vampire 9TFS would continue operations until the stalemate between both sides, suffering increasingly heavy losses with each battle. By LC54, Meteoria would have been reinforced seven times by other similar fighter squads. The inconsistent shifting of personnel and appointment of ranks made them one of the most unique teams by then, and subsequently become the last actual fighter-only squadron. The name Vampire was abandoned, and the squad was formally recognized as the 909th Tactical Fighter Squadron.

Following the stalemate, 909TFS began integrating both mobile suits and ground fighting components into the team; becoming the first joint task force to be led by a single commander. 909TFS subsequently undertook high profile missions due to the unnaturally high concentration of skilled ace pilots within their ranks. Following years after the stalemate slowly grew in numbers, at one point having over 470 mobile suits in operation, but the number was soon reduced, and the 909TFS was put on reserve service.

Come LC85, the increase in conflicts renews the necessity for an organized brigade capable of conducting all round operations. This led to the reactivation of the 909TFS now reorganized into an independent expeditionary brigade. The group was resupplied with pilots from special forces cells, trained pilots taken from the dismantled Talisman Squadron (83TFS) and several ground combat components such as the 920th mechanized infantry company. The renewed 909TFS, being experimental in nature were now allowed to make decisions onsite as and when deemed necessary, but are nevertheless obligated to obey orders handed down from brass.

so is this just a special operation unit or an entire TaskForce with it's own fleet?

I like this unit. you had to had some balls to fly a jet fighter agianst a Mobile suit

The 909TFS’s roots can be traced back to that of a fighter squadron, which is why they are the only division to still retain the namesake. Although now Meteoria relies mainly on mobile suits as their mainstay they still operate various combat aircraft for close support and air dominance mission.

Because of that, they’re more or less a joint task force rather than a covet ops brigade, but of course that doesn’t stop them from undertaking clandestine operations though since they are more or less a squad outfitted with quite a number of elite and ace class combatants.

That said, since the 909TFS is more or less reliant on mobile suits/air fighters, the division does not possess any infantry groups for ground operations, so most ground-based operations are still handled in tandem with other ground brigades.

That said, the entire of 909TFS doesn't mobilize at the same time all the time. Most of the time it is just the Command Vessel and one Carrier supported by a flotilla of support ships with the intention on serving as a mobile airbase rather than actual fighting assets in a battle.

basically yes. their role is more or less that of a task force made up of MS, aerial support fighter-bombers and ground infantry and artillery support all rolled into a single command structure.
