We're dying here people.
What happened? I remember a day when MARS meant so much to so many people. Its time we pulled ourselves back together already. We're lost at sea and drifting. The 'new' crowd is either gone or about to graduate. Somebody has to pass this on to the next generation. If we don't, then the oldest society in university history will be relegated to dead history and fading memories. I for one am not ready to let that happen yet. Time to get our asses back on the boards, and pull back together once again. Can I get a hell yeah? Or at least an amen? |

The death of MARS would suck muchly. I noticed that the club is no longer listed at the guild web site. Why is this - are we no longer affiliated with them? I've been away for about a year but I seem to remember some problems going on between the club and the guild early last year. What was the outcome and if there are problems what can be done to rectify the situation?

Hey Guys,
I'm new to Murdoch this year (Games Tech/Comp Sci major), and I'm quite interested in the area of RPGs/Adventures etc. A friend (also new to Murdoch) found this group and pointed it out to me, so we thought we'd check you out. Is there any up-to-date information available about ongoing event nights/game nights/whatever? Just curious. Anyway, Thanks. -Zac PS. Did you guys realise that all the threads on this forum are invisible? I had to use a bit of finesse to find my way to this thread. |

Is this truly the depths of apathy that we have sunk to? I live too far to come into the uni very often but if there was something happening that was worth my while you can be damn sure I'd try to get there. Till then this forum is my only link to the group and at the moment it seems to be averaging somewhere below one post a month. If this organisation is dead then would somebody at least have the decency to announce it here so that I can stop wasting my time screaming into this seemingly empty void.
If i don't get some sort of reply I'm considering going into every thread i can find and posting a singular word "Cockbite" 50 times in each. It's not a threat - its desperation. |

Zyrieen put a lot of effort into trying to get stuff happening last semester but it didn't manage to work.
Without a room we didn't seem to get life. Its hard. To get some life back. Perhaps too hard. I dont have the energy for this. I am too busy trying to pass. |

Wouldn't be the first time that MARS pretty much died. Things died down quite a lot from about 2003 or so to about 2006. I spent quite a few days librarianing to a pretty much empty clubroom and there was a year or so where the top half of the exec were for the most part off campus people.
I don't really have any great suggestions, but I think just concentrate on getting more members and once you get critical mass events should start happening by themselves. Though that's easier said than done. Try advertising around the place - at uni and off - Write a letter to Metior; put up a fliers on uni noticeboards and at Tactics, White Dwarf and Fantastic Planet; advertise at conventions. Turn up to Swancon/Genghiscon screenings in MARS t-shirts and try being as visible as possible. And maybe *try* organising some joint-club events with people like Bedlam/MAD... Something which means that you're not the only ones doing the work... though this may have increased risk of pear-shapedness. Also somebody could try getting a joint Unisfa/CIA/MARS event going for those people who don't like Zone3. Of course this is all just talk and what needs is the doing. Unfortunately that's not me anymore. MARS has had four and a half years of exec service from me plus some, and also I don't even go to uni anymore. I'm just an ex-ook who happens to have happened by. Though I *might* help out if someone asks me, and if it doesn't involve manning a table in Bush Court. I think that asking for help is an idea that shouldn't be underestimated. In my experience a lot of what MARS has needed is some fresh air from outside to stop peoples' brains from going soggy... including mine. - Warwick Former Keeper of the Purple Fluffly Dragon |

I'm new (back) to Murdoch as well, and I would like to help with bringing MARS back to some kind of life.
Of course, I have no real idea how to get in touch with anyone on-campus, so I figured I'd post here. I was a member a few years back, and I definitely miss that atmosphere Murdoch had when I was here last. It seems a lot colder a place, and I'd like to relight the fire. Can anyone let me know what the go is with MARS these days (since losing the clubroom)? |
